Forgeries abound in most early issues from Newfoundland, especially the imperfs. Here are a couple new arrivals that are now gracing my page dedicated to the forgery art.

Just curious, do you have a non forged copy for comparison? It would be nice to see one next to the other. Thanks for sharing. david

Dave I'm a bit weak on the Newie imperfs they were neglected for purchasing power to fill holes of early Canada. The one redeeming factor was I had insisted on MNH when shopping for the Admirals those alone are worth quite a sum today. At that time I had seven kids at home and the budget was tight.Other than #'s 1 & 3 most first pages of Newfoundland of any collection look rather naked.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

Related to Newfoundland forgeries is this certified fake cover that came to me in a box lot at an auction once. I have kept it with the certification as a conversation piece although I have been tempted to soak off the imperf Sc20 6 pence stamp. If the margins were better I would. The Brigus, Newfoundland postmark appears genuine and the CB Railway TPO cancel on the back is nice. I have 6 different early Newfoundland mint imperfs but I am suspect of them all. Maybe one day I will get them checked. They all came to me as parts of old collections or job lots.

hdm1950 You could contact John Walsh at N.S.S.CC.catalouge and ask him. Better get a clear scan though.

hdm1950 - the 1898 year in the postmark should be a certain giveaway Exactly JeffS. For sure it was not the reason I bought the job lot. It would have been a far more desirable cover now with the proper stamp of the period. The original owner must have been disappointed when you see what that cover would be worth if it was legitimate.
