What I collect: U.S. 1800's to current

Hi all, Been collecting for awhile and could't find my stamp gauge. I'm the cad designer at a junior college and use Autocad so I decided to develop my own gauge. I've found that some gauges are off quite a bit and found out that the number of perf's on a gauge are based on 20mm or 2 cm. So... if I needed to find out the offset for the gauges such as a 10.25 and discovered that 20mm /10.25 is 1.9512195 mm or .07681943" Lines are drawn in cad and offset by that amount. The only thing I couldn't find was the diameter of the dots, but if you line up the perfs with the lines all is well. This is a pdf but I couldn't upload it here. It's designed to be printed on a copier transparency at full size. I threw in some F/W outlines for good measure and am open for adding anything else members suggest. If you want a copy of the pdf send me an email. Looking forward to the forum. Skipper

Welcome to TSF, Skipper! The perf gauge looks great. I will send you a PM with my e-mail address. So, in addition to doing some excellent perf gauge work, what are your areas of collecting interests? I am a WW classics collector, myself, as are many of us here, but you will find a very wide range of collecting interests on the Forum, and plenty of posts about almost any area of the hobby. I have only been a part of the Forum for less than a year and a half, but I have found it a great place to make friends, share info, tap into resources and expertise, and learn something new almost anytime you want to. Anyway, welcome aboard, Skipper! I hope you will enjoy your time with us! Best Regards, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

Forgot to say that I mostly collect U.S. Have some mediocre foreign I'd like to get rid of or possibly trade and a lot of U.S. dups I'd trade. Collected as a kid but started up again 15 years ago and got halfway serious and hooked. Thanks for the compliments, it wasn't easy to figure out.

Skipper,if you could post some scans of your gems,we would love to see them.I dabble in the U.S. Mom passed last year and while her W/W went to my sister her U.S. is now mine.I had to move a large cabinet that houses them and find room in my small stamp room.

Skipper52 , Substantive information that is posted in these introductory threads tends to get lost over time and isn't easily found. I'd recommend that you create a thread devoted to your perforation gauge on the Forum's Philately Links & Useful Tools board.

Hi
Skipper52's guage would sure help with the early Mexico Numeral issues.
