Appreciate any help I can get on this. Years ago I purchased an online auction and this stamp which I identified from the Scott Specialized Catalog as either 53L1 or L2. I had put it on ebay about 10 years ago and someone contacted me and asked me to remove it as it was counterfeit. Apparently ebay hires experts to look at listings or so he said. He said if I could prove it was genuine they would relist it for free but I could never find anyone who could help. Hoping someone here can. I no longer want to sell it but I'd sure like to know if it's real or not.

Thanks for the post, Skipper52 . Very interesting item! Sorry to say that I have no idea about these U.S. local posts, although your example does appear amazingly pristine for something that is supposed to be over 150 years old. Hopefully, firstfrog2013 or @falshung or tomiseksj or someone else will know more and be able to give you a real response. By the way, to the best of my knowledge, eBay no longer employs any "experts" to police their listings. It is strictly "buyer beware" nowadays.

Genuine left - yours right As BG noted - it's just too nice for the age It would be a common Moens forgery characterized by 1. The ampersand has a smaller top than bottom 2. The T touches the frame 3. The top letters are much longer & thicker 4. The apostrophe is a long stroke 5. The center of the O in CO's is very small as is the P in POST 6. The space shown around the stamp is never that large, the adjoining stamp is very close A mid priced Local - $200-$400 with at least 15 various forgeries mainly by Scott & Taylor As for eBay - it's caveat emptor, they don't have the means to check. The amount of classic and modern forgeries is way beyond their or anyone else's control BTW - the "expert" (I doubt eBay hires experts) should describe why it's a forgery.

Then it appears like I have a genuine forgery. Still worth keeping for a new category.

Skipper these locals are one of my newest fads.See U.S. local thread. With my inheritance of Mom's U.S. I decided to work on something to add that sparks my interest. At this time I'm quite sure that the majority are indeed forgeries but therein lies a bit of fun too.Watch for further posts of these as I accumulate more.
