I am going through a box that has over 20 of these stamplates. They cannot be used to stamp since it is not inverted lettering. What is the purpose of these? They were originally in a cellophane wrapper but most have come off and the plates have come loose and the glue backing has gotten all over the place. Should they be cleaned? Pewter plates are cleaned but I do not know if this would damage the dark recessed surface.

...What is the purpose of these? ... From my perspective, solely to make money for the owner of Dory Duplicates.

I picked up one of those at the Smithsonian on a class trip 40 years ago. It came with two-sided tape on the back, and I adhered it to the inside front cover of my Harris Ambassador album back then. Still have it (the pewter stamp, not the Ambassador album).
