So I never heard of Steiner pages until I landed in here. They are plain, simple, nice looking pages. I took a look at a sample Canadian page & all elements are in one layer, with words broken up into different elements. I took his quadrille page & turned it into this...
I'll just add layers for frames & stamp info later, and maybe change the colour. I'll keep Luxembourg and the others as they are now, but newer countries may get this treatment. As if I don't have enough to do as it is with just stamps. This & spreadsheets...

I have all my Luxembourg collection on the Steiner pages. Also have used for San Marino and Monaco. Not sure yet what I will use for other countries.

thanks brightonpete for starting a separate thread for modifying Steiner pages, makes sense to keep that discussion on it's own feet. It's been some discussion on this topic in another thread : DIY Pages for Albania - however the topic is more general than Albania only, so better continue that good discussion on this thread I will simply copy the last comment I did on that other thread into this new thread: --------------- Interesting discussion ongoing! It's obviously lots of different ways to modify (Steiner Pages) PDF's. Personally I've tried a few different PDF converters, and some of them seem to only 'unlock' part of the elements or change them slightly. I was considering to purchase the Adobe Pro - however that's quite expensive. Luckily I found this Free PDF to powerpoint converter. So, now I am only using that free converter, works like a charm, all free. The converted Steiner pages are then fully editable in PowerPoint, without any issues at all. I am not familiar with other design programs, however I am extremely satisfied with Powerpoint. I am not a computer geek, so Powerpoint is perfect for me as it is very self-explanatory and very easy and powerful tool to use, with seemingly endless opportunities for adding graphics and formatting images etc. Dead easy to change fonts, to resize, align, copy and distribute boxes evenly horizontally or vertically. Also very easy to assign your own frame on all the pages in one go on a masterslide - which I've done (because the Steiner frame is smaller and off-center to allow for hole). Very easy to insert snip-outs from catalogs or other sources as reference on your pages, if so desired. angore - I share your view regarding catalog numbers. Previously I included catalog numbers below every single box. Then I changed my strategy to only use catalog numbers for those stamps/varieties that really 'needs it', example given face-similar stamps with different perfs, wmks, shades etc. For any stamp that cannot be mixed up with any other stamp below the same series-header, then I really see now purpose in adding the catalog number, as no further ID is really needed anyway (?). This have 3 advantages: 1) It makes the page cleaner 2) It takes much less time 3) When only catalog ID is shown for the varietites and not the others, it makes the varieties stand out and thus gives more focus to the ones that actually needs more careful ID'ing. That's just my philosophy, for now anyway - always subject to change Concerning editing Steiner pages, I suggest you try the link above and edit in powerpoint. (given you have powerpoint software available, that is, I believe it is included in most standard Microsoft software packages (?) cheers, Jon

brightonpete - hahaha, I recognise that kind of thinking.... My philosophy as a WW collector - whatever I do, even if it takes long time - as long as I enjoy it, it is not wasted time. It is impossible to 'complete' the work as a WW collector anyway, so just as well enjoy it, whatever it is.

Concerning editing Steiner pages, I suggest you try the link above and edit in powerpoint. (given you have powerpoint software available, that is, I believe it is included in most standard Microsoft software packages (?) cheers, Jo Jon, I actually have the Page Maker source files (.p65) for the Steiner pages and can open them in Scribus along with LibreDraw. Back in the mid-2000s these were available along with the PDFs and I had purchased a subscription so downloaded everything. I was looking for something simpler for just adding cat numbers. When I get to the aspect of new layouts, I will use Scribus. When I get stamps needing a spot, I will put them on a Vario page with location in album and create a page later. I found the PDF editing the quickest way for me since others added a little more overhead than I wanted. I knew it could be done but not until this thread did I learn what I was missing to just add numbers. What I was missing was there there all along. Acrobat 8 just has a clunky interface and much improved in Acrobat now even in the reader version. This is what I did with Scribus. Original Added image added details - this is just a mock up. The example did not apply to Malaysia stamps but that was what I was playing with to demo what it could do.

Nice angore - main thing is you've found a way to customize to your preference. Looking forward to see more of your stuff

angore If you're building Steiner pages from scratch in Scribus, you might consider giving the Scribus plugin I wrote a try (TSF link is here). The latest version has a pre-set that will mimic the Steiner style.

I am using 1.5.3 and think your plug in only works on 1.4.x. I had created master pages for Steiner pages and since I have majority of Steiner pages in PageMaker format I can just modify an existing one.

angore, I don't use Scribus enough to know for sure, but I think they've fixed the issues that were preventing my plug-in from working with Scribus 1.5.4.
