Hi, my name is Steve and I live in Kansas City, MO. I am a worldwide collector up to 2004. I don't have a lot of money to invest in my stamps, so my collection is mostly made up of stamps that catalog at less than $1.00. I am hoping to find some trading partners after I can get on the trading thread

The hobby, the enjoyment not the catalog value is important. Lots of $1 WW collectors here to answer questions.

The hobby, the enjoyment not the catalog value is important. Lots of $1 WW collectors here to answer questions. Very well said, indeed, Nelson! Welcome to TSF, Steve ( spreid)! I completely agree with what Nelson said, and hope that you will embrace it, too. I have been fortunate in my life to have had the means to acquire some very nice stamps in my time, but I can honestly say that nothing gives me more satisfaction than sifting through huge boxes of stamps at 5-cents each or something and finding some nice ones for my collection.... it's the best! Anyway, welcome again, and please enjoy your time with us! I have lots to trade, so hope you will get going on those 50 posts! Best Regards, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

spreid - Welcome to the forum, from another newbie Somewhat late response, been in vacation-mode lately. I had just the same experience as yourself when I joined just recently. This place is full of nice and genuinly helpful stamp-maniacs. That's a wonderful approach to stamp collecting. I certainly agree, no need to chase the most valuable stamps to have fun. Looking forward to hear more about your stamp collecting interests. Whatever you are into, you'll most probably be able to get lots of good help from all the kind members in this forum. Jon

Welcome Steve!
Lots of collectors here on a budget, luckily many great stamps are fairly easy to get through trading and other means. If you join a local stamp club there will likely be many collectors willing to help with expanding your collection for little "investment" other than a healthy interest and positive attitude. It's important NOT to spend too much until you know what you're trying to focus on, and of course as long as you get enjoyment out of it.
Many collectors just spend what they might otherwise spend on less-healthy habits (like smoking or drinking; a couple dollars a day or less, in some cases) So philatelically that can be MUCH healthier for you! You can also find stamps at antique fairs or garage sales; although not always rare or super valuable stamps, it's a lot of fun and you might meet new stampcollector friends!

I have found that stamps under a quarter will probably keep me busy for the rest of my life When you collect WW, you find out certain Countries with their majority of stamps being valuated under $0.25. Some of these Countries have flooded the market and this results as you posted. Does not prevent me from collecting and doing inventory. Maybe, in 50 years from now, these stamps are going to go from $0.15.....to $0.25 !! René Enjoy TSF, Steve

Welcome, Steve. I also have a ton of less-than-dollar stamps that I'm still working through. They piled up when I took a 16-year hiatus (it wasn't planned; it just worked out that way) from actively working on my collection. I look forward to making trades when I finally get them all organized and duplicates sorted out.
