Rod, how common is it to find used copies of the various Bantustan stamps? I imagine they must be a lot less common than unused ones.

I have come across quite a few of them over the years, nothing purchased specifically, just things I have found in kiloware. I recall buying a large lot many years ago of worldwide kiloware and a smaller lot of African kiloware, and both were rich in homelands definitives, plus a few commemoratives. A few of the stamps below are from First Day Cover cutouts, but probably 90% here is postally used, and probably 80% of that came from that single source. Lucky, I guess! Ryan

Here is a nice letter sheet from Sun City in Bophuthatswana, postally used from Sun City. Also a nice use of the Historic Thaba Nchu souvenir sheet.

I had to look the country up. The south African areas sure seemed to go in all sorts of directions.

Sun City is on what was once my grandfather's farm. Unfortunately, when the land was sold after he died in the 1950's, Sun City was still a long way off and the land wasn't worth very much.

Clive, thanks for sharing that fascinating story. Stamp collecting is sure a fascinating hobby. Here's another cover from Sun City.
