Collected as a kid and got back into stamps about 6 years ago and have gone crazy due to being old.
I collect worldwide in Scott Internationals and Minkus Supremes.
I also branched into countries which I have too many of and need to cut back due to space and finances as I collect mint never hinged as well as used.
As an example I have country collections for Canada, USA, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Netherlands, Indonesia,
Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary and so forth.
I am looking forward to learning about identifying the earlier stamps. I have trouble with watermarks as the watermark fluids are not good for my lungs so have a very difficult time with them.
I am from Canada which is not the land of the north any longer as hitting mid 30's Celsius is like the equator. Also last 2.years the smoke has been horrendous

Welcome to the forum, zwiggy. Are you in BC? The air quality there must be pretty awful at the moment. It's bad enough here in Oregon.

Hi twiggy, and welcome!
I too have always refrained from using watermark detection fluid--all the rage earlier when Zippo or Ronsonol lighter fluid containing benzene was commonly used by collectors. I just didn't like anything flammable and smelly near my stamps!!!
There is a relatively newer product designed specifically for collectors which no longer is benzene-based but it is still highly flammable.

I'm in the southwest corner of Alberta west of Pincher Creek. We are also under evacuation alert if the BC fire crosses into Alberta which happened last year as well.

Always great to have another worldwide collector on the forum, especially one who uses the Scott Internationals and Minkus Supremes.

I'm in the southwest corner of Alberta west of Pincher Creek. And if any forum members happen to find their way to the southwest corner of Alberta west of Pincher Creek, make sure to stop in at the Frank Slide Interpretive Centre to learn about the Frank Slide. The side of Turtle Mountain fell off in 1903 and buried part of the town of Frank. I love the drive through the area and when I have time I stop in at the Interpretive Centre and take the walking path through the rocks. (Image nabbed from the Atlas Obscura article on the slide.) During your walk, this little guy will holler at you the whole time. haha Welcome to our forum! Ryan

Welcome, Zwiggy. I also started collecting as a child, quit for a while, and then got back into it. That seems to be true of many older collectors. As a child and currently, I have a worldwide collection, but at both times, I semi-specialized in U.S. and Canada.

Welcome zwiggy !! If you've gone crazy about stamps you are in good company here In that case I will recommend using non-fluid watermark detection appliances, like e.g. Lighthouse Signoscope T1It 's a bit of cost, but it will solve 99% of your watermark problems, and replace confusion with sense of satisfaction. I could not imagine being without one. Good luck!
