Hello all,
I was led to this forum by a colleague of mine, who you know here as Beryllium Guy. I have been collecting stamps since I was 7 years old (i.e. some 40 years ago), and never stopped. I saw in the signature of another post a quote that a stamp collection is the most demanding of mistresses, and I would tend to agree (and so would my wife!).
My collection has two slants, countries and themes. From the country point of view, I collect Africa (all countries), France (and all French territories), Germany (and most German territories), Canada, the US, the UN (all 3 administrations), and Guatemala. Thematically, I am also interested in stamps about science, Nobel Prize winners, stamps on stamps, currency on stamps, maps, flags, Europa issues, my home city of Montreal, Jules Verne, as well as "unusual" stamps made with non-traditional shapes and/or materials.
I've been lucky enough to inherit various stamp collections from family members, and I feel I am keeping a "family tradition" of stamp collecting alive. I would consider myself more of a "generalist" stamp collector. I do not necessarily seek to find stamp issues of the best quality, but more to fill in holes in my holdings. I tend to prefer to keep my stamps in stockbooks rather than albums because I enjoy re-organizing them from time to time and also because I'd rather spend the money on the stamps themselves than the albums.
This is my first time on a stamp forum (although I have belonged to stamp clubs before) so I'm eager to find out how it can enrich my collecting experience.
Philatelically yours,
Xavier.

Xavier, how great it is for me to welcome you to TSF! Thank you for taking my suggestion to check it out. I am very pleased to learn more about your collection and collecting interests, since although we know each other a little as work colleagues, we only just realized that we are both stamp collectors on Friday! I am still trying to process that one. Anyway, I have been a member here for almost 2 years, and I have found it to be a great place: for getting questions answered, for helping others to answer their questions, and for making friends. I am looking forward to seeing some examples from your collections, which sound far-reaching. You and I certainly have many areas in common. Welcome once again, and see you around the Forum! All the best, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

We are a stamp forum in name but I like to think that we are very much a stamp club -- one of the main advantages of being a member of the TSF "club" is that you can attend a meeting whenever you want to and you don't even have to get dressed to do so. I've adjusted your membership status so that you may begin interacting in other areas of the forum so please don't hesitate to do so.

Welcome to the World's Greatest stamp forum. France stamps are the most beautiful. Hope to see your collection. Thanks for the warm welcome by all. Personally, I feel Austria has the prettiest stamps, but I won't argue. My favorite country is actually the TAAF (French Antarctic Territories).

Welcome Xavier ! You have joined a great 'Club' and I am sure you will enjoy your time here. I see that Flags are one of your topical collections ! I no longer collect Postage stamps and most of my collections have long gone, but the Flags remain, and are occasionally added to (by chance usually). Looking forward to seeing some of your stamps. I was recently in Aix with Beryllium Guy for a few days and I can say you have found not only a great work colleague, but also a partner for stamps. It was such a pleasure to spend time in Aix and with Chris and his wife......even though the dealer forgot the Cinderellas !!!! Londonbus1

Welcome Xavier. I hope you find this forum as god as I think it is. Always something to learn when reading older forum posts, and if you have a question, there is always someone who know the answer.

Welcome @xavier - this is a great place to be for someone with your mindset; "Philatelicaly Yours" - that's brilliant, I love it. You're lucky to have met someone like Beryllium Guy. Getting friends with a shared passion makes a huge difference. I am lucky to have my brother barbu just as crazy about stamps as myself. And in addition all the generous and knowledgeable friends in this forum. Stamping would have been a lonely avenue without. You're collecting interests are great, looking forward to see some of your stuff. I am a WW generalist, so I am trying to restrict myself to about the same kind of philosophy as yourself, being content about finding stamps to fill empty slots and not necessarily strive for perfect specimens. Thanks for sharing that philosophy and your fine introduction, hope you'll enjoy this forum. Jon

My very first stamp (below, Mauritania YT366 from 1977) was a flag stamp. This is the one that gave me stamp collecting bug. Excellent! 5 years ago I posted my copy of the first stamp I ever got - it turned out I was definitely in the minority, as nobody else still had (or could still remember) the first stamp they ever received. Welcome to our forum. Ryan

Welcome - Bienvenue hrdoktorx (Xavier) ! I am eager, as a Canadian, to see your Canada stamps......in fact, all your stamps and interests !! As all members use the "Shakespeare" English language, I will not speak as a French Canadian and translate thereafter Enjoy this fine group of people !! I was just introduced by Blaamand recently and enjoy very much !! René Nouveau-Brunswick, Canada p.s. do not remember my 1st stamp in the 60s but am certain the Penny Black is one of them, given to me at Xmas by my dad, a collector. Here is one of my favourite stamps from New Brunswick (Province of Canada) prior to our 1867 Confederation - Enjoy !!
