These local posts have caught my attention today, so I'm going to upload a few from my collection and let you experts weigh in. A couple from Shrub Oak N.Y.

The Shrub Oak Local Post was operated by Herman (Pat) Herst, Jr. The "Pat" nickname stems from him being born on St. Patrick's Day. He was a well-known writer of philatelic books and a contributor of numerous articles to philatelic publications, such as Linn's Stamp News and Stamp Collector magazine. I always read his articles in Linn's. They tended to be of a whimsical nature and often covered obscure topics, but were always interesting.
Herst operated the Shrub Oak Local Post in Shrub Oak, New York. When he retired to Boca Raton, Florida, he operated the Boca Raton Bicycle Post. He continued to use the Shrub Oak labels for the bicycle post. I don't think he ever created labels for the bicycle post, but he did have special rubber-stamp cancels for this post.
An overview of his local posts is available at www.qsl.net/kg0yh/shruboak.htm .

I just finished reading Nassau Street by Herman Herst. Great read, very interesting account of the New York (and elsewhere) stamp trade in the 1930s-1950s.
