Here are those inland revenue King George V issues I worked on yesterday. The Van Dam pages while nice in completeness cover up description when you fill the page. Not sure I will ever like a printed page and probably at some point will revert back to quadrilles.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I have been picking up some Newfoundland revenue stamps and I have not seen these 2 National Saving Stamps shared here. They were issued in 1947, a few years before they joined Canada. The red one is mint hinged and the blue appears mint but with no glue. The 2022 van Dam Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue gives them the numbers NFW2 and NFW3.

These 1898 Queen Victoria Inland Revenue stamps arrived in the mail today. These are the first I have from this set. It is the listed as the earliest of Newfoundland revenue stamps. They are large with the image alone measuring 1 5/8 inches high. The van Dam numbers are NFR2,3.4 & 6.

an irony that despite being only three years before the lady's demise, these 'revenue' labels still show the 'young head'. As you'll probably know, there are a number of late C19 Newfoundland postage stamps that do show the monarch's bust with the 'old head' image - for example, SG 66 from 1897, the 1 cent green, carries the wording "OUR QUEEN, SIXTIETH YEAR OF HER REIGN", and there seems to be a mixture of left and right facing profile for her portrait. Is this the complete set of these Revenue labels, or are there additional values do you know? I like these, thanks for posting.

The last of recent arrivals were 4 values of the 1942 Caribou Inland Revenue issues. These are all perf 12. The 1938 are perf 13 3/4, 14 1/4 with the later more common. This set was released again in 1966 with similar perforations to the 1938. I have none of the first and third issues yet to determine how easy it will be to distinguish them. There were many paper types used over the years so if one wanted to they could spend hours studying and collecting these.

These revenue stamps were engraved and initially printed in 1938 by W.W. Sprague at the old Perkins Bacon & Co. Ltd factory which they had taken over. The new company Perkins Bacon Limited wasn't setup until 1939. On 10th May 1941 the factory was destroyed by German air strikes on London. The printing of the Newfoundland revenue stamps were sub-contracted to Bradbury Wilkinson who created new plates from the original dies. According to Robert H. Pratt, the Newfoundland collector, the 1938 issue (Van Dam NFR26-35) were perf 14, the 1944 issue (Van Dam NFR36-43) were perf 12 and the 1963 issue (Van Dam NFR44, 46-53) were perf 13½. I don't have the Dam catalogue so not sure what that says. I'm also not sure if there is any noticeable difference between the printings as I only have one, from the 1963 series, perf 13½, I must lookout for some more.

michael I have the 2022 van Dam catalogue which does describe the different printers but without the reason for the WWII era change. The new catalogue does suggest variations of the 1966 perf around 13 to 13 1/2 which is why I suggested it may be similar enough to the 1938 13 3/4 perf variety to cause confusion.
