I bought estate lot from the US on Ebay and I came across this particular stamp, those anyone give me information about it? This appears to be a German Empire stamp, from the first issue ("small breastplate on eagle") after German unification, issued in 1871. This 1 groschen carmine issue is YT#4. The relief on your copy comes out amazingly well. I have rarely seen such a good copy, unless you played some tricks with the photography to make the relief come out. Usually, the difference between small and large breastplates is very hard to make out!

There is a problem when compared to the original There is "mention" of an imperf but the frame is wrong Also letters are different - note in particular the top serif on the 1 The postmark does appear to be in the right font and date Needs looking into - a cutout of some type?

Hence my use of the word "appears". This stamp looks too good to be true, but I am not enough of an expert to deem it a forgery. So I would be cautious with this one.

It´s no stamp, but a cut-out from an envelope, issued 1872. I cannot find or possibly do not own that envelope, but here the very similar one of the North German Confederation:
As one can see there is an overprint from left to right:
There should be traces of that overprint on your specimen. However,as the embossing of the stamp is a very strong one, likely not much of the overprint will be on the stamp.

Hi jonestamps78 and welcome to this forum. I made a similar discovery like yourself a few years ago, but soon realized it was just a cut out of a postal stationary I had found. So I agree with what the others have already said above - what you have is proabably a cut-out. In order to give a better image for experts to look at, I would recommend to forget about the camera. Scan the stamp at 600 dpi or more, front and back - and post each image seperately. Hope you have access to a scanner? Most 'households' scanner/copy machines will do a fair job at it. Good luck! Jon
