I'm organizing my German Empire stamps, but I don't have a deep knowledge of them, and limited catalogues (just an old 1973 Scott). There's a stamp I'm unsure of, that I'm hoping folks with more knowledge can help me with. It seems to be Scott #90, but that lists it as green+black. The stamp looks blue+black to me. In searching around, it seems that Michel lists color variations of this issue. Can someone give me a more specific identification of this stamp, such as catalogue numbers from catalogues that treat German Empire stamps with more detail than Scott? Also, is it's value something other than the common value for mint issues of the series? Below is a scan of the stamp, between three other stamps of the same design for color reference (green #121 & #82 on left, dull blue #123 on right). I'm interested in the stamp in the middle with the black 75 denomination.

It could be 90a in 2018 Scott's, but that is the only colour variation in Scott's.

stevew So am I (interested) after seeing your post and this blue/black 75pf stamp. I went through a few versions of Scott - nothing. I tried Michel but am not familiar with its system and German I cannot read. Went through my own German collection in Album and did not see that variety.....I have most of the others !!! I hope a member can decipher this one !! Pete mentions a 90a ?? in Scott 2018, which I do not have. Good luck - René

Here are mine:
And here an excerpt from the Michel Spezial 2005:
It´s from nearly the middle of the volume,so please excuse the poor quality. In the general oversight of all Germanias the 75 Pfg. carries a note: (Töne) meaning different colour shades.
Hope that helps.

BTW which of the 104, a,b,c, represents the mentioned stamp ? I can't guess! As a testament to the confusion, consider the following translation (mine) of the colour of the frame (Germania herself is listed as being "yellow-black to green-black" on each of 104a, 104b & 104c): 104a - blackish-green to black-blue-green (from sheets and coils) 104b - dark green to blackish-blueish-green (from sheets only) 104c - black-green-blue (from sheets only) Ryan

You're right to be untrusting of scans. Not only can the scan not capture the true color, but each viewers monitor can affect the presentation of the color. On my monitor, the scan represents the color fairly well. In looking at the scan in the reply to my question, and in other images found on the web, I can see variations from a blue-green to blue with a slight green tint. The stamp I have, when viewed in hand, simply looks deep blue by my eye. But it may simply be that this whole range of color is just the nature of this stamp.
