Isn't that KGV Essay the same image that was used on the KGV series from New Zealand.

The powers to be, got it wrong in my opinion, the Dulac design, showed allegiance to the original penny black enginework, continuing a fine tradition, together with that unmistakable French flair for artwork. The resultant stamp that was accepted, was a plain and stodgy as a typical English meal. Another of Mr. Dulac's essays, superb stuff.

Ha ha ha - reminds me of the opening line from a Frank Zappa song - "Lord have mercy on the people of England for the terrible food these people must eat ...." My Dad is of English stock and his mother was perhaps the worst cook I've ever known. My other grandmother is Norwegian and is a natural-born cook, never needs a recipe, can just look at the bowl of stuff and decide how much ingredients are necessary, and out comes a perfect cake. Mom always said it took her two years to train Dad not to put ketchup on everything. For him, that was the way to survive his mother's cooking. ha ha Ryan

Wow! fantastic, nice to hear of another fan. ----------------------"For him, that was the way to survive his mother's cooking." Being English myself, I do have some empathy, I still faintly recall petrol rationing, long after the war ended, we were a poor family, my father a diemaker at a Helicopter Works. Poor, but we did have the only car in the cul de sac. an old Morris 10. I still recall eating, and loving it! Bread with Lard. (how gross is that!) I still am a fan of a bit of meat and five veg I saw Tony ?? of "Time team" the other day, tuck into a "Full English Breakfast"...Goodness me, that would make your head spin.

I still recall eating, and loving it! Bread with Lard. (how gross is that!) That was known in Alberta as well. My Mom talks of eating lard & sugar sandwiches. She's from pioneer stock, Norwegians & Estonians who came and developed the land back in the days of the Dominion Lands Act. In fact, I'm a direct descendant of Estonian #1 in Alberta (my great-great grandfather)! Ha ha - you know it's a small community when you can count your way back to the first guy. www.aehs.ca/heritage/people/first/kingsep.htmlen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominion_Lands_ActRyan

Nice story Ryan, the land must have seemed to go on forever. 160 acres for $10. What a gift.
