Hello all,
My name is Lee, and I have recently returned to stamp collecting, a hobby last visited probably around 30 years ago (I will be 49 this year so that gives you some idea)
I am based in Gedney, Lincolnshire, UK. I am an engineer, ex Royal Navy, ex Police and several other jobs along the way.
My main interest at the moment is UK stamps especially pre 1940, - however I seem to pick up lots of stock books full of everything at auction just because they appear to be cheap (I justify it by telling my self the empty stock book Is worth it on its own)
I am concentrating on trying to fill an old Windsor album - and am doing fairly well with the exception of the later phosphor issues. My reference books so far are the Stanley gobbons 5 volume workd catalogues and the great Britain concise ( I am currently bidding on a SG queen Victoria specialist edition to help with the earlier identifications
My main drivers at the moment are trying to accurately catalogue the hundreds of penny reds that I have so I will be looking at the resources posted on here that might assist, especially with the earlier ones that don't have plate numbers on them.
I will also at some point try and identify the plate for my one and only penny black (and not a great one at that) I have seen the very useful thread on identifying the plate numbers but I need to get my eye in if I want to make progress.
So there we are, that's me
My long term plan is to continue to buy up job lots at the local auctions, cherry pick to add to / upgrade what I have and sell on the remainder

Welcome to our Forum!
Yours is a story quite similar to many of us -- a long hiatus and then return to the hobby.
I've adjusted your membership status so you can now post elsewhere on the Forum so don't hesitate to jump in.
The answers to many questions about using the forum can be found on the FAQ board and the search function is quite useful in finding out if a subject has already been addressed.
Please let me know if you have questions or encounter any problems.

Welcome to TSF, Lee! I am an American expatriate living and working in the Provence region of France these days, and I also spent a good many years away from being active in the hobby, although I somehow managed to keep accumulating material, even when I wasn't doing anything with it! In any case, welcome to a fine group, don't be shy about asking questions (I see you have already started one new thread--well done), and let's see some posts of your favourite material! By the way, if you are a seafaring man, there are some postmark fanatics around here who would love to see some maritime cancellations ( blaamand, barbu, and many others, including me), if you have any to show. Enjoy your time with us! -Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

Hi navylee1970. Great to have another youngster here. I'd love to see some pictures of your Windsor Album. Is that GB only or all Commonwealth?

I have two Windsor albums, a red older version and a slightly newer blue 4 album version, I am just in the process of changing over to the blue. I am now just three off of making a full set of numbered penny reds (excluding the daft one) I will post some pics once I have completed the transfer (damn I need more mounts)

Hi Lee, and welcome to our corner of philately!
I see you already have 29 posts just a couple weeks after joining, impressive! I will have to read more threads as I haven't yet seen your posts (other than your introductory one, of course). Wish there was more time for that, but sometimes work gets in the way of, or detracts from, my time devoted to all things related to stamps. Lots of times I sneak my laptop into bed and fall asleep reading The Stamp Forum--no offense it's just very late and I haven't yet had my daily stamping fix!

Hello again everyone, since joining I have been trying to use this forum using only my iPhone as my laptop had died - got my new one today so my ability to post should improve greatly
regards
Lee
