For the last two weeks or so I’ve had trouble getting The Stamp Forum to load. All other websites are loading fast with no trouble, but there are times when The Stamp Forum will not load at all. I just now tried it again and it’s the first time I’ve been able to get it to load in about 24 hours. This has happened 3-4 times over the last two weeks or so. Is anyone else having this problem.

I didn't have any problem .
Maybe you can clear your browser 'cache' and then retry?

No problem here, either, coastwatcher. Not sure what's up. I have used the method suggested by nikhil sometimes in the past, with some success. Otherwise, hopefully one of the more tech-savvy members like Ryan or Admin or @falshung may be able to comment....

If you are on a pc, I have found that re-booting can be extremely helpful! Just kidding! hahaha The best thing to do is reset the app, like what nikhil suggested.

Hi If one is using a Chrome browser I highly recommend installing the add on Click & Clean: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/clickclean/ghgabhipcejejjmhhchfonmamedcbeod Set up properly it'll delete everything possible on closing the Browser. After the add on is installed and set up, to close the Chrome browser click on the Click & Clean icon and in the resulting drop-down click on "Securely Close Browser". Browsing history, Caches, etc.. are cleaned out. Web Page loading should be faster after a good scrubbing. Looking at the drop-down menu there are other functions that can be performed without closing the Browser. I have no way of knowing if the add-on is available for non Windows machines and/or browsers. Jerry B

I would expect a fraction of a millisecond difference with Norton Security as is checks everything prior to opening a page.

There have been no reported problems on the ProBoards end. If clearing the browsers cache doesn't help, have you added any browser extensions recently? If so, try disabling them one at a time to see if that might be causing the slowness.

I use Safari on my iPad. I haven’t tried logging on with my computer. I just can’t figure out why The Stamp Forum is the only site that does this. I probably visited between 80-100 other sites during the period that I couldn’t get TSF to load and I had absolutely no problems at all with any of them. They all loaded quickly and completely. If it keeps happening, I will take it to my friend, who does this sort of thing for a living, and see what he can do with it. Thanks for everyone’s input.

AdminI have no problems loading - I like to have a Security program running all pages etc. The only problem I find is when you want to go n a new Post in a thread marked NEW, it does not bring you there like it used to, so you have to scroll eah time to find the appropriate post - I think that is worse when there are multipl pages for a thread (?) Ive never had a problem with Safari on my iPad. Not sure what could be causing yours. Of course if something isn't working right on my iPhone or iPad, a re-boot usually solves the problem. Try that, it should help...

What I have noticed with the NEW function is that it seems to require you have marked all previous post read in that specific thread. For example, if I start reading a thread starting 2 years ago, NEW never seems to work. It work on recent threads if always mark threads read but you will not have marked initial posts read in old threads. If you do not keep up, I think you get out of sync.
What I think is needed is something to mark all threads read from current to first post ...not just what is on the current page. There may be a way but cannot find it except for marking the current page read.

For example, if I start reading a thread starting 2 years ago, NEW never seems to work. And what I've noticed is that the NEW button doesn't get me very close if there are lots of images. It doesn't seem to be able to account for the extra scrolling needed once the images are loaded - a thread with a lot of images (like the Postmark Calendar thread) will always fall well short of the correct landing spot for the first new post for me, it's as though it gets it correct if there were no images, but once the images load, the proper starting point ends up much farther down the page than it has allowed for. Like Al, I also notice that threads which I haven't visited for a while will start me off at page 1, rather than the most recent post I looked at however many months ago it might have been. I think the ProBoards forum perhaps limits the number of cookies it will store (thus limiting the number of threads it will keep track of), but that's just a guess on my part, I haven't dug through their support forum to look for a better answer. After selecting "Recent Threads" from the menu, click on the "New" button rather than the thread title -- doing that takes me to the new posts added to the thread since my last visit and I assume it will do the same for you.

It does not for me. I always start by going to Recent threads. I usually select NEW for any threads I want to read. It is can be hit or miss if I actually get to the latest post I have not seen. I sometimes select the date of last post and work backward.
When I am finished reading the threads I wanted, I go back to Recent Threads view and mark all read.
The comment about about many images interfering seems interesting.

Admin when there are multiple pages in a thread, there lies the difficulty in getting to the new post......tried 1 pagers, no problem, multiple pagers and the scrolling to the new post stops mid-way René

I haven't had a problem using this technique with multi-page posts so I haven't been able to duplicate your issue.
Like angore, I click the "mark all boards read" link in the Forum Information & Statistics category before logging off.
I'm at a loss as to what may be causing the issue on your end (perhaps the browser?).
This is, however, another example of why members should only use quotes when needed for context and then only after removing all extraneous material from the quote.

Here is what I experience when clicking on the "New" buttons after selecting "Recent Threads" from the Navigation bar: For clarification, the Forum's software is doing the scrolling down to the first unread (new) post in each selected thread -- I am hitting the "Home" button to return to the top of the page.

Hi
Today is the first time I have seen the board loading slow down. I assume it is the board host and not anyone's machine. Too many have the slow down problem. There are probably a lot of individual boards being hosted, such as TSF, and the hosting site may need mare server power. Just my opinion.

Lots of horsepower in them mares!
FWIW, I have yet to see any of these slowdowns.

Here's an example of that - I just looked at the Domestic Cats thread using the blue NEW button, which should send me to the first post I haven't seen yet. The URL is correct - it's a bit tough to read on this downsized screen capture but it's sending me to page 2 of the thread, post 70935. Here's what I see - note where the scroll bar is on the side of the screen, it's hardly moved from the top of the page. And here's where I should be - the scroll bar is now way down the page, since I've already seen a majority of posts on this page. All of the images on this page (so far) have been posted off-site using imgbb.com - maybe that's why the landing point isn't in the correct place, maybe all the ProBoards forum software is allowing for is a single line for the image URL (or maybe it's allowing for an image size of 0 x 0 pixels), when it needs to actually allow for the space used up by the images themselves. Certainly there are some threads where the NEW button does take me to the right place, and there are others where I don't get the right place but it comes much closer than the above example, so I don't scroll as much to find the right point. This case, however, was a bit of an extreme example. It might be just my browser (Chrome), I don't know. I only really use one other forum, I'm a lurker on a fractals forum rich with images which uses simplemachines.org and which has its own storage for all images posted. It always gets to exactly the right spot when clicking the NEW button. I'm guessing that the most likely explanation has to do with the off-site image storing so it's something that won't get fixed unless the ProBoards software starts taking into account the image properties when loading the page in order to allow for the correct amount of screen space needed to display the images. If I look a second time by refreshing the page using F5, it will scroll to the correct spot - presumably after loading the page once, the images are in my cache and instead of allowing only enough space for the URL, the images are automatically called back and the correct screen space is allotted for them. But if that's the case, why wouldn't those images still be in my cache since I was looking at those same previously seen images yesterday? Whichever is the case, I don't expect it's something we can fix on TSF! I think it's a ProBoards software issue. Not a huge issue in any case, just a minor "first-world problems" annoyance. Ryan

As for me , I usually just click on the latest page number in the Recent Threads link, and then hit the "end" button, then "page up" from there. No issues. On clicking the blue "New" button, loading the pictures at times takes a couple seconds, so you don't end up at the thread you were expecting. It is too fast for ALL the photos to load.

Consider using the "Recent Posts" option rather than "Recent Threads" -- you get to see everything recently posted and you don't need to navigate to a specific thread unless you want to review it in greater depth.
An added benefit of this approach is that it results in fewer "page views" being counted against our Ad-free subscription.

Hi Steve I tried "Recent Posts" and got 34 pages of stuff How do I know what threads are new for what interests me? I am willing to do whatever it takes, but 34 pages is just too much to wade through to find what interests me. Jerry B

...I am willing to do whatever it takes, but 34 pages is just too much to wade through to find what interests me... You don't need to read all 34 pages of posts, just start on page one and work your way through until you get to the last post that you viewed on a previous visit. The posts all have the thread titles so it shouldn't be too hard to identify that which you like.
