In February/March, 1933 Hungarian Aircraft designer and pilot Antal Banhidi and Pilot Tibor Bisits flew around the Mediterranean Sea in Banhidi's Gerle 13 aircraft. It took just over 100 hours. They were the first Hungarians to attempt such a journey. Banhidi's Gerle aircraft became internationally famous.
To commemorate the event, a label was produced with text in both English and Hungarian. Whilst foraging in a local Flea market a while back I came across this little selection and whilst not cheap, could not resist them !!
Progressive Proof Sheetlet
Colour Trial, Tete-Beche.
Perforation Trial [Not successful !!]
Issued Label. [?]

Another interesting find from Hungary is this set [or part set] of Middle East/Holy land sites. I am still searching for some info.
I have 16 of the Poster stamps, there may be more. I have shown 3 of them. The others are of similar colours and are very attractive. The 3 shown are all of Holy places in Jerusalem:
The Dome of the Rock [Mosque of Omar] on the Temple Mount, Old City.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, site of the Crucifixion.
Via Dolorosa, Stages of the Cross.

Can anyone shed any light on these 'souvenir sheets' (quotation marks, because they aren't real stamps, so not real souvenir sheets, in the true sense of the word) from Hungary 1991? The top 'stamp' is perforated.

james, Here's what I can tell you, sadly not very much. They are Souvenir sheets issued by the Collectors Department of the Hungarian Philatelists Association. I understand from the designs that they have some seafaring connection because of the 'postmarks' [Balaton is the largest lake in Europe] and the private or local stamps depicted [anchors]. Duna and Zala Samogy are areas [counties] of Hungary most likely near the lake although I have not checked. The label depicted in the upper sheet looks familiar. I may have it but that doesn't help at all as I still don 't know what it is !!
Need to connect the dates shown but that's for another time.
Happy searching.

The first one is the D.D.S.G. Donau Dampfschiffahrt Gesellschaft or Danube Steam Navigation Company The stamps are sought after, expensive and with MANY (at least 15) forgeries (upcoming article??) The cancels Alt Orsova is in Serbia Arpad is the ship cancellation Both would add considerable value to the stamp
The 2nd one Z.S.G.T. is the Zala County Steamship Company
It would not surprise me that there are other commemorative labels From that period there is also the D.B.S.R. (Danube and Black Sea Railway), the D. & B.S.L.S. (Danube and Black Sea Line of Steamers) and the T.B. Morton & Co. of Constantinople
They all had postal stamps & the usual fakes

This 1905 Cinderella beauty escaped me as my online bid was not high enough. I'm not sure but it looks like the lady is holding a " Brownie" type camera, popular around the turn of the century. Wikipedia states they originally sold for one dollar, equivalent to $30 today.

This unstamped, unaddressed "cover" has some Hungarian philatelic exhibition labels (I think!) apparently from 1921 or, more likely, 1925, as indicated on the labels. I like it because it fits my "stamps on stamps" (or rather, stamps on Cinderellas) fondness. Although acquired within the past year, I can't remember if it was in a dealer's cover box (usually a dollar or less) or if I paid more. At any rate I really like the labels; too bad it didn't make it through the Hungarian postal system. I prefer Cinderellas that are "tied" to a legitimate cover. Oh well, it still found a new home!!!

jimwentzell , Better dash off and see if I can find anything from Hungary. Those are rather neat, by the way. Never seen them before and as you say, great for the 'Stamps on Stamps' topic.

Benefit of the Hungarian Peace Church 1916 An extensive set of Cinderellas to raise funds for the building of the Hungarian Peace Church, now known as the Memorial Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca (now Slovenia) - "the Basilica of Peace". The church celebrates the fallen Austro-Hungarian defenders of the Isonzo Front battlefield (1915–1917). It was built by soldiers of the Austro-Hungarian Army and the construction was led by Géza Jablonszky, a lieutenant of Hungarian origin. The church was inaugurated on 1 November 1916. It was built in 184 days. It lies on the on The Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic linking memorials which connects memorials and remains of World War I in the Soča Valley
