Hi apologies for lack of pictures my laptop is dead and I am posting this from my phone. I have an option to purchase a job lot of postcards and fairly mundane mixed stamps - however, at the bottom of the box are around 10-12 Victorian envelopes with embossed 1/2 penny orange and one penny pink. Also some 1/2d brown preprinted sheets which I assume would be written on, folded up, sealed then posted. Are there any online references for these, don’t think there is anything in my Gb concise catalogue

Based on the photos posted is it worth buying a box of odds and sods for 30-40 quid if it means getting around a dozen of these?

Hi, the cover adressed to the railway company is collectible by trainspotters on it own, museums and prop shops keep an eye open for such items. I do have a pdf on postal stationery you can have a copy of, send me a pm with your email. If the postcards have duplex cancels, they too have value.

Close up of the best of the Queen Victoria one penny pink embossed covers , I think it helped that this cover had a firm piece of card enclosed

And although battered and bruised, this grubby little beauty was also in the bottom of the box - Queen Victoria embossed stamp 10 pence brown SG. 57 mounted on a cutout of its original linen cover. They all count when you don’t already own one!!!

I believe the above cover is late usage. Anyone agree?

paul1 Hi Paul, Your mutilated stationery fragment (aka "cut square", aka "cut to shape" ) Postmark : I believe that is Scotland (GLASGOW = 159) (Never seen this type of cancelling hammer before, very nice) the "3E" maybe a Time code, I need to research. The "pendent curl" refers to Her Majesty's coiffure, her hair bun, how the hair falls is shown by engravings, can identify different dies of the embossing.

thanks indeed rod - sadly the cancellation has obliterated much of the view of Victoria's coiffure, and it goes without saying that I wish the original 'snipper' has cut this with a generous square margin. Why didn't I look under Scotland - I looked under England, and for some reason my brain then ignored north of the border - you're correct of course about Glasgow, and the books says 159 appears in the lists of 1844 - 1874 then appears to avoid the No. in the lists for 1887 - 1906. No matter I think you've nailed this one adequately, and am sure you're also correct that 3E has a time connection.
