Hi Everyone,
I am from Northern Ireland. I collected stamps as a child, but my activity in philately tailed off until a few years ago when my radio ham husband was getting a lot of envelopes with qsl cards (for contacts) in them and nice stamps on the front of them. I asked if I could have them and now I can barely keep up with the supply. I have run out of hinges and haven't got around to ordering more. Unfortunately we don't have many philately shops in Northern Ireland - just one that I know of.
I don't have any country preferences, but have more stamps from Italy, Japan and the USA than I kind find space for.
Looking forward to getting to know people here.
Gillian

Welcome Gillian!
QSI cards can be fun, I have a couple from years gone by. A window on the past! But for you it's a great way to get stamps, obviously newer, from around the world. We love to hear where your husband gets some from! Many people probably would be surprised, in this modern age of instant communication, to hear that ham radio is still around as my brother has been hamming it up since the 1970's.
I have been collecting stamps since age ten (almost 50 years ago) and learn something new every day!
Please ask any question you might have, nothing is too trivial!
--Jim (in Georgia, USA)
PS I sent you a message on our private message system regarding stamp hinges!

Welcome Gillian. Welcome to The Stamp Forum. My husband and I are both ham radio operators and those QSL cards are awesome to receive. I like the ones that are sent to us in envelopes with wonderful stamps on them. I also have a friend who goes on quite of few DXepeditions. His wife sends me big envelopes of stamps on paper several times a year. Looking forward to hearing more about you and your collection.

Welcome to our Forum, gillian ! Mick also collects QSL cards so I'm sure he'll be happy to see that you've joined us. I almost had a card to add to my hometown collection but was outbid at the last minute -- someday... Your membership status has been adjusted so you can now post in other areas of the Forum. gillian welcome to TSF - lots of nice people here, and knowledge aplenty to learn something new everyday (sometimes twice or thrice!) The only bad question is the one not asked! Cheers!

Hi Jim, I just sent you a private message. Do you know what your brother's callsign is? My husband gets cards from all over, as he is qsl manager for a number of hams, but mainly Japan, Italy and the USA. Many thanks for your welcome! Gillian

What are your husband's and your callsigns? My husband's is GI4FUM. I am also licensed, but not active. My callsign is GI8MIV. He and I have been on a number of DXpeditions, but I was not very involved in the operating. They were mostly to take part in contests. We have been to Swaziland, Mozambique and Namibia. Hubby is also very involved with Radio Scouting. I also like seeing the stamps on the envelopes that bring all the qsl cards, although I do sometimes have difficulty identifying what countries they are from! Gillian

QSL means 'confirmation' in ham radio lingo and QSL cards are sent as confirmation of contacts made via the amateur radio frequencies. Gillian

Maybe some day you'll connect. 88 and 33 respectively! Gillian
