seems as good a topic as any Based on Jan Kosniowski- Stamp Domain, Catalogue of Postal Stationary Newspaer Wrapper (thank you Gavin!!!) - this is 1879 Die 1 and number 013 based on the authors numbering. Postmark supports the Die 1 (79) and the ribbon tying the hair lacks th edetail of Die 3. If you're wondering why the background not being the typical black or white- a black background caise sthe fiber of the paper to pick up too much of the main (dark carmine) color, while white tends to make it look washed out (see my threasd elsewhere on scanner issues) haven't yet determined where post office branch 110 is relative to a location ending in LEY, but I'm looking into that anyone else who has these, please share!!

110 KeighLEY, Yorkshire! (thank you again Gavin!) Let's ping Tony Allan (oops) ( tallanent ) on this one, too - his British Postmarks database project does show a match for (110) and Keighley but his example is not a duplex cancel like yours, so even though your cancellation is incomplete, it might still be useful to him. GB 1780 1/2d Newspaper Stamp on Piece These newspaper stamps are quite beautiful. They can be difficult to 'read', you need to add up all of the amounts to get the actual value. So, a halfpenny plus a halfpenny plus a halfpenny which comes to 1½d which was the rate introduced in July 1776. It is Type 6 with a recut die 993. Thanks for posting, Daniel
