What I collect: Europe, Asia some S.America up to 1960

Hello, Thank you for the membership. Found this site through a member. I collect Europe, Asia and some S.America early issues basically to 1940-60. My collections go back about 35 years. I accumulated a significant amount through relatives and purchasing estate collections. I kept what I wanted & sold the rest. So collecting was not too expensive that way.
I don't buy much now {except from selected foreign sellers} Seems prices have generally gotten inflated and many sellers on popular sites are not overly familiar with quality/condition and forget catalogue prices are generally best case scenarios. I guess a lot of the hobby especially in Asia is concerned mainly with stamps as an investment.
Anyway so much for that. It is still the "hobby of kings" or is that coin collecting?
Presently in Belgium on contract work and probably returning to Western Canada "soon/eventually" Regards F.R.

to the forum, frstampI pretty much get my stamps from auctions nowadays, as they are considerably cheaper than a dealer. I lived in Germany for 3-½ years, but unfortunately never made it to Belgium, or France... Enjoy your stay over there!

Welcome to TSF, F.R. ( frstamp ) ! Glad to have you on board. I look forward to some posts of your favorite material. I have some affinity for early Spain, so I really like your avatar, too. I am originally from the US, but currently living and working in southeastern France near Marseille. I hope that you are enjoying Belgium. Regards, Chris (aka Beryllium Guy )

I have some affinity for early Spain, so I really like your avatar, too. As you might expect the avatar is a forgery. However, Spain is very unique in that every stamp {or at least 99%} from 1850 to 1940 were forged multiple times. With Spain it is truly part of their postal history and forgeries are regularly featured in auctions and get very high values. That particular avatar stamp is as far as I know the most valuable in Spain having sold in excess of $75,000. A member here who has "some knowledge" in these directed me here.
