I've been working some cinderella covers lately that include these two philatelic covers from the 13th National Postage Stamp Show, November 1961. in NYC. The labels are the product of the American Stamp Dealers Association who produced cinderellas from 1949 into the early 1970s for the exhibitions held at the 71st Infantry Regiment Armory. The two covers, which are also first-days for the 8c Gen. John Pershing stamp, Sc. 1041A, issued November 17, 1961, include pairs from the perforated sheets of ten labels tied by the first-day cancels. The sheets of labels came in four colors -- red & blue on white, green & blue on white, brown and blue on white, and orange & blue on white. They were also issued imperforated. The central motif of a discus thrower against a map of the world was to emphasize the increasing popularity of topical collecting, especially sports and the Olympics. Don StampHinger

Still working cinderellas and getting these two covers ready for the album. On cover are two large souvenir/advance labels from the Tri-State Federation of Stamp Clubs, the three states being in this case Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. These large labels were issued in three colors: black and blue on blue paper, black and green on green paper, and black and pink on pink paper. I lack the pink.
The first cover below is a first-day for Sc. 996, the 3 cents stamp issued July 4, 1950 and commemorating Indiana Territorial Governor William Henry Harrison and the first Indiana Territorial capitol at Vincennes. The triangular labels include a facsimile Vincennes postmark. The label on this cover serves as an advance label as the exhibition was not held until September 29 - October 1, 1950.
The second cover, not tied, was posted on Sept. 29, 1950, the first day of the convention.

Four first day covers of the 7 cents blue stamped airmail envelopes, Sc. UC33, issued November 21, 1958 at the 10th National Postage Stamp Show, in New York City, wth each envelope having a tied pair of the souvenir labels issued for the show. The labels came in a pane of 12 in four colors, green, orange, red & brown, both perf and imperf. They commemorate the 40th anniversary of airmail service in the U.S. and feature a Curtiss JN-4 Jenny and a Douglas DC-8 jetliner. Don StampHinger

Halloween Brexit Sent to me anonymously in 2019, this cover bears a 'Boris Johnson' Halloween X Brexit cinderella. There is no denying that the cinderella is tied to the cover but there is no postage stamp attached. Yet it was delivered quite promptly without a postage due request. Whether or not Brexit has worked out for us can be judged from various news reports.

This is my first foray into making my own cinderella / local post / vanity post stamp. It didn't come out as well as I had hoped - for one thing I should have made the lettering bigger - but it is a learning experience. It commemorates my late wife, Kirsten Taylor, who passed away last year. I also printed many more of these than I can probably use in a lifetime. If any of you would like one for your collection, send me a PM. mick.local.post.1.cover.to.self by Mick Taylor, on Flickr

While not tied, this American Philatelic Society 1947 advance label on this envelope is an interesting usage. It appears on a commercial cover prepared and mailed by the Journal American, a New York City daily newspaper that had a history of promoting philately via its stamp column and aggressive ad sales to stamp dealers. The envelope was obviously printed to accommodate the label. In addition to this promotion of the annual APS show, the Journal American also prepared and mailed commercial first-day covers

A first-day cover, November 20, 1953, for Sc. 1027, 300th anniversary of New York City with matching tied American Stamp Dealers Association cinderella. It looks like this cover went through the mails to the addressee. There is a Yale Stamp Company return address on the reverse. I speculate that Yale Stamps prepared and mailed the cover to Barry Kumins, who perhaps, was a customer.

An American Philatelic Society souvenir sheet commemorating the society's 68th annual convention held in San Francisco and hosted by the California Collectors Club in 1954. The sheet is nicely tied to cover by a First Day of Issue hand cancel for the 2 cents Thomas Jefferson stamp, Sc. 1033, in the then new Liberty Series definitive set. The souvenir sheet came in three different color combinations: red, black and yellow on white (this sheet); green, black and yellow on white; and green, red, black and orange on white. A 1944 post card posted at Childress, Virginia, now a discontinued post office, with two tied cinderellas. At the right is a patriotic label readily available in 1944 and to the left a poster stamp depicting the U.S. Navy Hospital at Portsmouth, Virginia.
Given the lack of a message on the card, I am thinking that the addressee was a collector of cinderealls on cover and that this card is probably a favor cancel from the Childress post master.

A post card advertising an appearance of Tom Jones at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe pressed into service as a contest entry form with a Cal Farley's Boys Ranch seal tied by the cancel dial. Nice placement of the dinosaur in the slogan cancel too.

A recent acquisition that arrived in yesterday's mail. I bought the item for the "first-day cover" of the 1951 National Cat Week seals printed and distributed by the American Feline Society in NYC. The first day reference is to the posting of this cover on November 4, 1951, the first day of National Cat Week that year. Much to my surprise, the cover came with a full sheet of 1951 cat week seals, plus blocks of six for the 1949 and 1950 cat week inside.
There is no return address on the cover, other than the hand stamp tying the seals, so I am thinking this may have been a self-addressed envelope that the addressee sent in response to an ad for the seals. I like these items both as a collector of cinderellas on and off cover, and as a "cat person."

Another recent acquisition, this one a Trans-Mississippi Philatelic Society (TMPS) souvenir sheet commemorating the society's 1946 annual convention in Des Moines, Iowa, tied by the convention postal station handstamp, 1946 was Iowa's centennial year of statehood and the cover is appropriately franked with the stamp commemorating the event, The TMPS used to be a vibrant collectors society that issued a lot of cinderellas. It is regrettably no longer in existence.

Another French Re Cross cover. This one has been sent from Comité Cantonal De Maintenon to the Secretary General in Paris. No postage was necessary. It was posted on 5th March 1915 and received the following day at Paris Disttrbution. The Red Cross cinderella honours French Air Ace Georges-Marie Guynemer who would die in combat two years later.

Here are two cinderellas tied to cover that I found at OKPEX this weekend. The first a 1944 personal post card with a God and Country label tied. It was a popular WW II era cinderella. The message on the card suggests it is from a post card collector to another. The second has another frequently seen WW II era cinderella on a letter between siblings, or perhaps, cousins. The 1943 cover is a little scruffy, but I bought it because it appears to be non-philatelic in origin.

In 1954, the American Philatelic Society held its annual convention at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, California. The California Collectors Club was the host philatelic society.
This cover commemorates that event with an appropriate cachet featuring the Golden Gate Bridge and a souvenir label tied to the cover. The label is the top right image cut from a souvenir sheet of four designs issued to also commemorate the event. See this link for an example of the complete sheet on cover thestampforum.boards.net/thread/6336/cinderellas-on-cover?q=california+collectors The cover is also dual purpose in that it is a first-day cover for the 2 cents Thomas Jefferson stamp from the 1954 Liberty Issue, Sc. 1033. The Second Tokyo International Book Exhibition June 25th-30th 1959 A cover from International Book Exhibitions, London to publisher Charles E Tuttle Company in Rutland, Vermont with an attractive Poster stamp for the upcoming Tokyo International Book Exhibition. Tuttle, now trading as Tuttle Publishing but still family owned, was started by Charles Tuttle after he enlisted in the military and in 1945 was sent to Tokyo to work on General MacArthur's staff. He made many contacts in the Japanese book trade and the company is well known for its Asian publishing.

The 50th Anniversary of the First Aircraft Landing on a Ship 1917-1957 I have a number of these Cinderellas but this postcard puts them in perspective. Squadron Commander E H Dunning landed a Sopwith Pup aircraft on HMS Furious on 2nd August 1917. The stamps depict a Sopwith Pup from 1917 and a Hawker Siddeley Buccaneer from 1957.They are tied to the card with a special Landing Aircraft on Ship Underway handstamp. The postage stamp may appear to have an ordinary machine cancel but it is, in fact, a BFPO (Britsh Forces Post Office) London cancel dated 13th November 1957. Proceeds in aid of Naval Air Relief.

I have had a difficult time understanding what the foil seal in the lower left corner of this cover represents. I did find out that the addressee, Carlos Spatari, was a musician who developed a "universal" language for short-wave radio operators based upon the musical scale of do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti. As I understand it, using the scale as code, a radio operator can draft a message in his/her own language and have it understood by any recipient who also knew how to use the code. Sounds useful, but the lack of detail about it on the internet suggests that the language did not catch on.
If anyone knows more about the Spatari Radio Language I would like to have an explanation.
Nevertheless, it produced an attractive cinderella, and the cover being addressed to the language creator makes this an association item as well. Don StampHinger
