An American Philatelic Society souvenir sheet commemorating the society's 68th annual convention held in San Francisco and hosted by the California Collectors Club in 1954. The sheet is nicely tied to cover by a First Day of Issue hand cancel for the 2 cents Thomas Jefferson stamp, Sc. 1033, in the then new Liberty Series definitive set. The souvenir sheet came in three different color combinations: red, black and yellow on white (this sheet); green, black and yellow on white; and green, red, black and orange on white. In 1954, the American Philatelic Society held its annual convention at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco, California. The California Collectors Club was the host philatelic society.
This cover commemorates that event with an appropriate cachet featuring the Golden Gate Bridge and a souvenir label tied to the cover. The label is the top right image cut from a souvenir sheet of four designs issued to also commemorate the event. See this link for an example of the complete sheet on cover thestampforum.boards.net/thread/6336/cinderellas-on-cover?q=california+collectors The cover is also dual purpose in that it is a first-day cover for the 2 cents Thomas Jefferson stamp from the 1954 Liberty Issue, Sc. 1033.
