I don't believe it is a regular postage stamp as it does not say " ESPANA" or "CORREOS" Canary Islands. From the aircraft style I'm guessing 1930s The Civil war started when Franco landed in Spain from the Canary islands Is there a connection? Many Spanish Communities issued 5 Cent labels as a tax on postage Is that what this is ?

Thanks Stan, stainlessb The answers seem ambiguous. One suggests Civil war Postal Tax as I wondered, the other has it as a "Cinderella Aviation Label Vignette , Sanabria Air Post Semi Official" that comes from BidStart so perhaps not the whole story. Neither really gives a definitive answer yet !

The first page of offerings HERE has several covers with the above stamp included- maybe the proprietor of the site can offer you some info. Cheers Stan

The 1954-55 edition of Sanabria's Air Post Catalog describes it as a local surtax stamp for LAS PALMAS that was issued in 1937. The catalog lists a 5c ultra ((#73), 5c violet blue (#74) and 15c brown(#75). The 5c ultra can also be found surcharged "Habilitado--para--0'10" in red (#76).
There is also a 25c green stamp of the similar design inscribed "TENERIFE" that was a local surtax for SANTA CRUZ de TENERIFE (#77).

Michel 1994/95
Canary Islands built a seperate postal entity during the Spanish Civil War 1936-1938. According to Michel 56 air-mail,37 regulars (of these 5 were also air-mails) and several postal tax stamps were issued.
The footnote below no.56 reads:51-56 were used as additional postage for air-mail shipments.
