Specialized pages are so challenging. You did a great job no matter which version you select.
I know I am late to the discussion, but have you considered changing your heading? Having it in two columns like that make it challenging to look at, and the left column crowds the country name.
Because design wise, the body of your page isn't two column -- each image / description pair is visually one unit. Having two columns of headings implies two columns of information.
What if it was something like this:
FRANCE
Semeuse Lignee (Row Sower) 1st Definitive Series 19xx - 19xx Designer: Louis Oscar Roty Engraver: Louis Eugene Mouchon
"with ground under feet"
10 Centimes
Hopefully the spacing stays when I hit 'post', but I'm suggesting France on the left like you have it but the rest centred on the page.
Even if you keep it to two columns, I suggest you set the right column down a bit, below the bolded "Semeuse Lignee" line. It's incongruous where it is, in that it's placed higher than your bolded title.
It would be more naturally pleasing if the text got smaller / lighter as you go down, from large page headings, to slightly smaller topic headings (bolded perhaps) , to smaller details (or all the same size) as opposed to getting larger or more bolded.
What do you think?

Mark
Thanks and let me think on that- i am not too far into this yet (France) and even other countries to makes changes- it has certainly been an evolving process and as I've learned Scribus more it is getting faster to make changes (aka the 3 different layouts took maybe 15-20 minutes to move, center, etc., I am not a graphics artist by trade, nor have I haver much training. When I was taking classes to get certified for an employers ISO-900x efforts (many years past now I initially started on Corell (sp?) Suite as MS Office was primitive in comparison), desk top publishing was covered pretty lightly when it came to much beyond text. Fortunately my current employment provides me with the full Adobe suite (many of which I really don't know how to use...so for now Scribus works well) Thanks for your comments
I'd actually like the country "name" to be a bit larger, but I don't want such a large 'header" that it pushes the stamps into extra pages , leaving some with just a few stamps on them. A 'few"of the Sower series only have a small # of Types so I may be able to describe and mount stamps on a single page. My goal is to have associated pages facing each other. And I suppose the reason I have gone to this much detail is Yvert 129 Ia with no description doesn't mean much and I am amazed at the collections I have acquired that have stamps mopunterd in completely the wrong place (30 -40 years too early....)
( a pet peeve)
Tomorrow is another rainy day so I have plenty of time!
Cheers
Stan

Hi stainlessb, The more important question is whether you like it! But since you asked, I do like it better. If you think the headings are taking too much space on the page and pushing the stamp descriptions down, you might consider combining the first two lines into one (french and english versions) Since this page shows all the varieties in details, I assume you'll have another page with the actual stamps, correct? If you are, you might want to eliminate the details about designer and engraver on this page and simply note the set name ("Varieties of the first definitive series, 15 centimes" or similar) in order to give more space for the variety images. If you're putting the stamps on Vario pages adjacent to this page, then that won't work, of course. You could also put a small image of the entire stamp in upper right, as well, now that the space has freed up, in order to give context to the zoomed in images. But if all your varieties will be displayed adjacent to this page, then that's not as useful either. But honestly, the pages look amazing in the versions you posted earlier today; I'm so impressed at how you got all those images compiled in the first place! I am an extremely simplified, general collector by comparison. This is amazing to see. Thanks for sharing this here.

I always enjoy looking at what others have created to display their collections and the efforts by both stainlessb & tobben63 are no exception; nice work!
In all cases though, the layout and content must be appealing to the creator. If someone else enjoys the work, bonus :-)
As for the amount of information on a page, I would think to include only that information that is required as a memory jogger when picking up the album again at some date in the future as shared by renden in one of his most recent postings, " Example of a page done last year"
In the end, taking a break from the software to enjoy the stamps, covers and other material is never a bad idea as DIY album pages have the propensity for never being done...
Happy collecting!

Very nice work again stainlessb - and I think madbaker are giving some excellent advice and I think the revised Semeuse page is easier on the eye. What a great forum where others help to develop pages. At the end of the day layout of DIY pages are up to personal preference andIthink stanley64 summed it up nicely: tobben63 - (For some reason.... ) the simplicity of your Luxembourg page is very appealing to me! I think the minimal headers allows the stamps themselves to stay in focus.

I've started to create pages for Finland. A very fascinating collecting area - and Facits "Special Classic" offers great details. In my previous set-up (in stock-book) the first issue occupied a tiny corner on the first page. With more info from Facit the first issue now occupies the entire first page... ....and leaving a tiny quadrille 'playground' at the bottom for reprints etc. The page will remain rather sparsely populated for now though, only have 2 genuine and 2 reprints. (And some cut to shape but they don't count!). Knowledgable Finland collectors will notice I did not leave a space for the 5k on laid paper (which Steiner has done). I see no reason for having a space for that rare variety, only 10 specimens are known, so extremely unlikely I will ever see one

after several revisions, and then some more tweaks I am going to try and call it good as the next few denominations will be single pages (no Types) just shades, and it may be more practical to place several denominations in the series on the same page (thanks @m)adbaker first page, in B/W as I have to wait until i go out to the office to print. i am hoping the pages are self-explanatory (that was my goal) The facing page for the 15c was a challenge to fit and this layout seemed to work best for my eye and have the best balance I'll sit on these for a few days before mounting. Whether I go back and make all pages for France match......not sure yet And Happy ______ to you all however you celebrate today! Stay healthy!!!

Tank you RenΓ©
I am happy the next few denominations only have shades! It is beer thirty here also. having a session IPA from Founders Brewery.
Good luck on your bidding- I won an early Austria collection for opening bid this morning- Many of the stamps I may already have, but I did see more that a few denominations which will fill some gaps as I slowly assemble Austria into Vario pages... and some day a printed page. Gavin sent me a nice reference that i printed out at the office yesterday (in color) and at the moment I am placing in sheet protectors and then into a binder where all such material goes (I'm going to need my own Dewey Decimal system soon to keep track.....
Stay well!!!

I've been busy getting my American album pages printed, so I can mount what I have in the stockbooks. I shot out 1966 yesterday, then realized tagged issues were a regular feature from the Park Service stamp onwards. So I'm re-jigging 1966 to look like this. I think this will work out. Untagged on top, tagged below for each issue. I was going to keep the tagged separate, but think it is better to keep everything together instead. After I took this snapshot, I widened the descriptions of the two lower stamps on the left & right, raised the bottom stamps up a bit, then lowered the bottom half down a bit. It looks much better now.

brightonpete - That's an absolutely adorable US page! I really like the handscript header, it adds the little personal touch, well done. I agree in your move to keep the tagged with the untagged. One minor question: If (or when... ) all the boxes are filled, how will an unfamiliar viewer understand the set is tagged and untagged? Maybe I'm just missing something. I might have added a tiny note somewhere to say Untagged/tagged - just a suggestion. Regardless your page is stunning - I know it is a lot of work - but the result is something we all can admire. I will love to see it populated.

blaamand -I missed that too! I'll add a note. Thanks for that, Jon! That post just shows you what I know about American stamps! From 1967, ALL stamps are tagged, so this dual display is only for 1966 (and a couple before). That makes it much easier for me. Not like Canada with multiple types of tagging through the years!

brightonpete - I know what you mean. It's a relief that US is less complicated than Canada when it comes to tagging. As a matter of fact, I am just in the middle of making DIY pages for Canada, and the Centennials and their tagging is next. However I forgot my Unitrade at home, so working on Finland instead as a 'fall-back' job.

Thanks angore. This are A4 pages 160gram creamy/vanilla paper. The plastic sleeves are Esselte Open 2 sided 105my. Unfortuneately, as the photos shows, they are a bit blury, but very solid and hold the paper well in place even if they are open on two sides, which is very convienient for a WW collector...

Wow, wow, wow. barbu your pages for the Romania 1893-98 'Spic de Grue' issue are mind-blowing. Most pre-printed albums have this issue covered with a handful of 'basic' boxes. Your pages are on the opposite side of the scale: extremely detailed, with boxes, write-ups and illustrations for all sorts of varieties. I wouldn't be surprised if these are among the most detailed album pages ever made for this issue(?). This work takes a lot of effort and dedication, and it's executed with magnificent style as well. I love it, and certainly look forward to trying them out myself...π

Well, on my previous post I only displayed 1 of the pages for the 'Spic de Grue' issue, so other readers will mabe not understand excactly what you mean. Therefore I am now adding all the 8 pages for this issue with the PR watermarks (and watermark positions) + the first page of the same issue unwatermarked. In addtion to a variety of watermarks, wmk positions, shades & different perforations, this issue can offer a spectre of different papers as well (!!!), and represents a goldmine for the most crazy Romania specialists! I have not gone that path of identifying papers as well - so maybe there are people that have made even more detailed DYI pages... Anyway, this should be enough for a WW collector I assume!

The stamps on mushrooms are very beautiful.
This theme, but above all Space - Astronautics and Aircraft, made me decide to look for album sheets by themes, to be able to print.
Unfortunately I have not found anything...
Therefore...what could I have done?
Hence I created the sheets, here are the images for the " Italian style" sheets (with 22 holes, size 27x29 cm.) for Italian albums like Marini etc. I print sheets on 200 gram paper. I am facilitated, because in front of me I have high-end machines that allow me to easily print up to 400 grams. And in the shed ... I have the industrial printing machines.
Tell me if my sheets are to your liking!
