A set of six stamps, each with a common design, was issued by 21 French colonies. There was also a souvenir sheet with an imperforate 3fr value stamp, issued by 24 colonies. I would like to post a few examples , all on registered covers. Some of the covers are addressed to H.A.Wallace,who was appparently a well-known collector in the 1930,s and 1940,s.Would like to know if anyone has more info on this collector or his covers.

Inini was one of three colonies which only issued the souvenir sheet for this Exposition. Cover mailed 5 `12 1938 with a nice ST Elie cancellation.

A couple more of the souvenir sheets.24 different colonies issued a sheet,21 colonies a set of 6 stamps with a common design. The 3fr value stamp was for a registered letter and a total of 30,000 were issued by each colony.Complete mint sets are not that difficult to find.

I love this set. Finding an almost complete unhinged set of them tucked away in the collection inherited from my grandfather - untouched for 50 years - was what got me started on collecting French colonies.

The set of six stamps on registered covers. Mauritania with cancellation from Rosso,Jan 18,1938 Indo-China with cancellation from Saigon Central,Jul 3,1937 Both covers were done for philatelic purposes. The Mauritania cover was sent to a well-known collector of that time,a Mr H,A,wallace from Oldham.I have quite a few covers from his collection. The cover from Indo China has the inscription......affranchi par l,expediteur. The value of the stamps on the cover was more than the going postal rate. The post office attached this as they did not want to be seen as price-gouging....
