A semi-postal stamp was issued by 21 colonies in 1938 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the discovery of radium . There was a surtax of 50c which benefited the International Union for the Control of Cancer. A complete set of mint stamps is not too difficult to find.I have not seen a used set so it took a little while to complete the set.Stamps on covers are also harder to find. I was able to find a nice used block of 4.

The complete series of used stamps.I have never seen a used set for sale so this was completed over a longer period of time, involving purchases from several different locations and hoping none were lost in the postal system.

Bob, What a wonderful collection of Used "Curies". Your used French collections are simply amazing. I took the easier route long ago by collecting Mint. I've tried to collect used as well but I'm so picky about appearance I've never been able to assemble complete French Long sets. As we all know, choice, nicely canceled used examples are much harder to find.

Impressive collection. How long did it take you to assembly.

Wonderful! I have the complete set mint (inherited, so I can't take any credit for assembling it), but the used set with nice cancels like yours must have been a challenge to put together.

dgdecker David, thanks for your comments. It took me about a year to assemble this series of used stamps.I purchased a couple at stamp shows in UK but the majority were purchased from sellers on Delcampe. Some colonies were harder to find.Niger and Dahomey were the final purchases.Living in S America means I had to pay higher registered mail costs so I tried to buy with other stamps to cut down on shipping costs.Mint stamps and mint sets are much easier to acquire but I enjoy the fun of searching for missing, elusive items. This was something that kept me from going crazy during quarantine.......
