Appears to have been postmarked July 30, 1899, and addressed to one Jim Beucicauth ( I doubt this is correct, nothing comes up in geneology searches) Esquire, 103 West 55th St, New York City, U S of America (no mention of the state of new York).... faint diagonal writing on the front ....who knows Back receiving postmark seems to indicate it arrived in New York Aug 8...1890? ?? postmark to the next i have no idea any ideas?

This is a puzzle isn't it...I use Family Search a lot for my genealogy stuff, perhaps you do as well...so I tried various letter combinations on that last name and really didn't come up with anything but here are a few thoughts....
- is it possible the sender was giving the addressee an additional title? "auth" in this context meaning author? as well as Esq? I noticed a couple of entries for Beucic as a last name, this being the case - are the last 4 letters of the name possible "amth" or "anth" or possibly "aulh" - the sender is very diligent about dotting his/her "i"s but not crossing his/her "t"s. - the first three letters of the last name...Are they perhaps "Bem" or "Ben", are the "c"s afterward perhaps "e"s?

There was a famous Irish playwright in New York in the 1880s called Dion Boucicault... That surname might fit, although I've not been able to trace one in the 1892 census of New York.

Looking at the handwriting, I think that Chris ( cjoprey) has correctly deciphered the name... well done indeed!

Come to think of it - that might also be the full name on the envelope, and he had two sons called Dion who would've been alive at the time of this letter... See this article.

Now that I look at the first name, i believe cjoprey is correct, it is Dion! This being a letter sent just prior to his death Sept 18, 1890. The QV Jubilee stamp is correct for this time frame the front date stamp upon closer inspection looks to be 1890 and not 1899 as I first thought well done cjoprey !!!
