Scott identifies the 1938 stamp as Queen Elizabeth. SG identifies as Queen Mother. I just want to double check Scott is not correct and not another look alike issue somewhere. The challenges without a fully illustrated catalog. I have a 2016 Scott and 2018 Scott Classic with same description.

Hi angore, The Queen Mother's name was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, so she was officially titled Queen Elizabeth, whereas the current queen is titled Queen Elizabeth II. I guess the confusion came from them having the same name... At the time these stamps were issued the queen was Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), and Elizabeth II would still have been known as Princess Elizabeth, so I believe both books are correct. Hope that helps! Chris

Walsh's Newfoundland Specialized (the bible for Newfoundland stamps) is in accordance with Scott and Queen Elizabeth appears under the already described/scanned stamp by angore . Thanks cjoprey for the details. René

Just to add to the confusion. The present Queen Elizabeth II is the second reigning Queen with the name. Queen Elizabeth I was the daughter of Henry VIII and ruled England for 45 years.1558 to 1603. She was never Queen of Scotland so when the present Queen came to the throne in 1952 there was controversy about her title as she should have been Elizabeth 1 of Scotland. Mailboxes inscribed EIIR were vandalised and some were blown up!
Her mother who is the Queen Elisabeth in this Newfoundland stamp does not qualify for a number as she was not the reigning monarch, she was Queen Consort to King George VI.
