There was also a post office at Isachsen, on Ellef Ringnes Island. Long closed now, I did have a cover from there when I was a kid. Unfortunately, all my Arctic covers from way back when are long gone.

Don't forget about CFS Alert! I spent two years up there. Unfortunately, I wasn't collecting then, so I have no covers from there.

I have a small collection of Arctic Covers. Originally, I had an ASSA (Assiniboia Territory) Collection which was expanded to include the Northwest Territories and Yukon. If you want to share the PDF, you could upload the PDF to a place on the web and post a link to it from this thread. Here are a couple to share: I believe these are from the day the Post Office was opened.

The house addressed to in Sacramento is no longer there. A new house was built on the lot in 2003... valued at $1.5M. It's in the Land Park area.... a nice established part of town for those who can afford it.

I have a book on these called Northwest Territories Postal Cancellations 1907-1986 by Kevin O'Reilly. Here is what it says for Craig Harbour, almost the same as what you have. The Craig Harbour postmark that I have is the Earliest Date for the B1 postmark. (See 2nd scan below)

Here is my Alert cover, with a weather related theme to it, postmarked on the 28th of May 1958. Lake Hazen is a long narrow lake south of Alert. Pilots flying on Project Hurricane (now changed to some other name when the RCAF took over CFS Alert) can attest to the fact that it is an excellent lake for fishing!

I thought I had posted this one before... An expedition to the North Pole, posted from Resolute Bay on the 5th of June 1976. Unfortunately, it failed and everyone had their names placed in a rock cairn on Ward Hunt Island. I spent two years in Alert, but never made it to Ward Hunt Island. I flew over it a couple times, but didn't land on it.

Whilst the Yukon Territory does not appear on Robert's ( WERT) map of the Arctic, the community of Dawson (64°03′30″N) does sit further north than Yellowknife (62°27′13″N) on a map,
To my knowledge though, there were just 23 Canadian post offices in the Yukon Territory up to 1905 and only handful prior to 1900; the hunt continues for other Map Stamps cancelled 'Fort Cudahy, NWT', 'Forty Mile, Yukon', or even a 'Tagish Lake, Yukon' one.
Here I go, chasing unicorns or whistling at the Northern Lights...
Happy collecting!

Great stuff René ( renden); I was not familiar with the Campbell text, but instead have added a couple of others to my library wish list,
- Scrimgeour, Gray. Postal History Of The Klondike Gold Rush. a noncompetititive [sic] exhibit [Postal History Society of Canada. Northern Canada Study Group], 1996.
- Woodall, Robert G. The Postal History Of Yukon Territory, Canada. Quarterman Publications, 1976.
According to the Canadian Postal Archives, the Fort Cudahy broken-circle postmark you have shared also has proof strike on record for 'FORT-CUDAHY, B.C'. Interesting material and an exciting era to get lost in - Klondike Gold Rush, 1896 -1899.
Alas, the material is rare for single map stamps cancelled during the era, but I am still holding out for a Tagish Lake, YT as I have heard rumour of their existence...
Happy collecting!

Whilst the Yukon Territory does not appear on Robert's ( WERT ) map of the Arctic, the community of Dawson (64°03′30″N) does sit further north than Yellowknife (62°27′13″N) on a map, ... I took a closer look at the page you created after renden posted the snippet from Campbell's book which shows an 1899 date for the Dawson, N.W.T. postmark sample. Your Dawson, Y.T. postmark shows an 1899 date as well, and you show an earliest recorded date of Feb. 1898 for a Dawson postmark. I would have to assume that's for the Dawson, N.W.T. example, either that or there was perhaps an error with the year date slug. The Yukon Territory Act didn't create Yukon as a separate territory until June 13, 1898. Sort of like seeing a postmark 4 months before the official first day of release for a stamp, you have to assume an error somewhere ... And when you search online for "Yukon 1898" when trying to learn about this stuff, you come across this photo that became an internet meme about a year ago - Greta Thunberg is a magical time traveller who spent 1898 working in the gold mines in the Yukon! ha ha Ryan

I think your assumption is correct Ryan . Similarly though, it seems odd that if the Yukon Territory was created in the June 1898 that the community of Dawson would be using a NWT cancel almost a year later. We do know the Post Dawson Office was opened 1897-09-01 ( Item:23071) as for the hammers used and their configuration, hmmm....
Happy collecting!
P.S. As for the photograph, it reminds me of a Sapphire & Steel episode ;-)

I had a bit of a poke through the Postal History Society of Canada Journals including the "SPECIAL CAPEX '96" issue where I found no less that sixteen different versions of the Dawson cancel listed. For the Post Office itself, the opening dates are recorded as follows: October 1897 (NWT), June 1898 (Yukon). The latter aligns with the passing of The Yukon Territory Act referenced by Ryan in an earlier posting. As for the postmarks, the one shared by René (renden ) from the text Canada Post Offices 1755/1895, by Frank W Campbell (hmmm, 1895(?) - already there is a storm in head) appears to be the A2 version of a broken circle cancel: ERD - Mar. 9, 1899 LRD - Dec. 16, 1901. The one I have shared is listed as the B3 and currently has the following details: ERD – June 16, 1899 LRD – July 6, 1963. Alas, no new ERD, but at a minimum, I need to re-do my page to remove any confusion... Happy collecting!

From Philip( tundrawolf )'s find to the remoteness of Canada's north, one can clearly see Resolute, N.W.T. on the map shared earlier in the thread by Robert ( WERT )
Commercial Cover franked with a Canadian Scott n.º 351 - 10¢ Inuk and Kayak (1955) and tied with a Resolute Bay, N.W.T hand canceled dated XII.27.1962.
Seems like an appropriate stamp and one of my favourites....
Happy collecting!
