Hi Here is a mystery on a Scott 620 stamp that should be explained but is harder than one would think. Here is the standard Scott 620 - 1973 stamp Designed by Allan Robb Fleming, and printed by British American Bank Note Company....27 500 000 were printed...Stamp below.
After printing over27 500 000, it is likely that plates wear out at a slow rate, as shown below.
Even the lettering takes a punishment as shown below.
Now we know plates wear out, that is a normal process. Then explain why on the same run, one stamp is affected and one isn't..See below. THAT IS THE BIG QUESTION Robert

i really do not have enough knowledge in printing processes to even guess why this might be. I had notice over the years that the many copies I have and handled looked different. I had thought this was mostly do to fading, running post marks etc during the soaking process. Most of what I have were done in my youth when I really had no idea what I was doing. Might dig them out and have a look.
