I picked up a collection of 1953 Coronation covers recently & finally pulled them out of a musty binder. Yes, they smell a bit musty as well. I canned the sheets they were mounted on and started cleaning them up. With the graphic image that was included behind the text, it makes it difficult (at least for me) to clean it up. So I looked at all the fonts I have & "Charter" seems closest for the Queen bit. But, does anyone know of one that would be closer. It is a tallish font. Also, the "Coronation" font I doubt I'll ever be able to find, but again, does someone know of one that comes close to this one? I think the Coat of Arms & photo will remain as is. I'm still searching. Many thanks for any help provided!

Searching around, I think I should just bite the bullet & clean up what I have. Maybe scan it at a higher resolution to make the clean up a bit easier...

The closest I could find were Nevada Serial Extra Light:
and Adroit Light:
I use FontSquirrel as an online font matcher. If you have Adobe Photoshop, it has a built-in font matcher, as well.

Hi brightonpete
Put the word Fonts into the Google search box. There are many font sites, some free.

With far too many fonts too!
I searched but gave up. I'll use "Charter" and re-scanned the page at a higher resolution to clean it up "Coronation".

I have used this tool several times and there is another site that does it too. You upload an image (scan a row of text tightly - not two rows).
The orginal fonts looks like a condensed (narrow) version of a standard font.

I decided to try it myself. This is what the tool came back with. It looks like Windsor (maybe no coincidence) standard is close. Then you need to look for a free clone of the font.

It missed the font it is: Charter! That is the font I am using for the Queen line. I'll just clean up Coronation so it looks good when printed. Maybe I'll find a font to replace it... I just thought someone would have a similar font. Save me time looking for a needle in a haystack!

Pete, It matched the font I searched. I searched the upper font not the lower one. The lower one is not as condensed and more a generic serif font to me.

Charter is not a good match for the original. Take a look at the descender on the capital "Q" and the slant of the legs of the "M" Also, it is a slab serif.
Windsor is a pretty good match. The descender of the "Q" tapers a little differently, but it may be as close as one can get in searching for a digital version of lead type. And besides, the name is appropriate.

I am liking angore's Windsor Light Condensed as the best match.

I downloaded the font, but it has pointy flourishes at the ends of the serifs. I suppose it would be impossible to get the exact same font, unless one can create a brand new font based on the image. Same with the font used for the word "Coronation." I'll use Windsor Light. The Nevada Light was just too different. Besides, on opening it, Font.app noted problems with it, so I chucked it toot-de-sweet!

Hi brightonpete You did not like the suggestion of trying to find a Font. If you are artistic and have nothing else to do, create your own font: Create Custom Font As I pushed the button, I got an idea. I am sure no one searched for Great Britain Fonts: Great Britain Fonts
