Every Saturday for as long as I can remember, a Collectors Market has been held in a car park underneath Charing Cross Station in Central London. Many good stamp and Postal History dealers attend as well as Postcard and dealers of other collectables such as Coins, Banknotes, Ephemera and Militaria. I have always paid at least one visit to this weekly event during my visits back to the UK, often meeting Internet buddies in the process. Yesterday was one such occasion. I first met anglobob at the BDC during 'London 2010, A Festival of Stamps' and it was a pleasure to meet him again, together with his wife, for a few nice hours of stamp searching and some exchanges in a local eatery. We look forward to catching up again at the International Exhibition in 2020. If anyone else has plans to visit the Charing X Market, please tell us about your experience here....together with pictures if possible ! Here are a few from yesterday.....and one from way back when !!! Below, from London 2010, A Festival of Stamps. October 26th, 2019. Charing X When I arrived, it was still dark !! (opens 7-1) Until next time...... Londonbus1

Would love to get to this one day - living up in Suffolk it's a fairly long trek for me. Does anyone know if there's anything like this in Cambridge or Ipswich (easiest places for me to get to)?

Suffolk ? That's next door to London as far as I'm concerned . I was at Charing Cross earlier this month...…………...from Aberdeen! Mind you I was staying in London for 4 days to include the monthly Friday Fair at the Royal National Hotel.

I would just like to go to any stamp show, exhibition, anything, just once. I have never been to any kind of stamp anything. I live in Savannah and we have nothing here, except some really good food maybe.

I went to the Norwich stamp fair this morning, and as promised am reporting back here.
It was a fairly small event with seven traders set up in a meeting room at a small hotel, covering postcards, FDCs, sheets, single stamps, collections and more. Some had empty books for sale, as well as stock cards, older catalogs and some coins. I spent an enjoyable time going through items that caught my interest and came away with 2 collection books of WW stamps, three small mint sets of British Commonwealth, and a bunch of loose single stamps - all for under £40!
I had a great chat with several of the traders, and will definitely be going back!

The Cinderella Philatelist has landed on my doorstep together with the upcoming auction catalogue. This will make interesting reading on the (re-arranged) flight to London on Sunday morning. The magazine gave details of the CSC meeting at the Royal on Saturday 22nd so I hope to attend if only for a short time to meet a couple of friends. BUT FIRST.........7.30am on that same Saturday it's the Charing Cross Collectors Market !! I always love looking around here even if there is nothing to buy. I just cannot be in London on a Saturday and not visit the market. If anyone has any plans to visit, do let me know. I wonder if I can get one of my Grandsons to get up early ?! (see pictures of market from earlier posts) (more up-to-date pics will follow) Londonbus1

As it turned out, a very disappointing visit to the market ! I had forgotten about the train strike which meant that most sellers and buyers were not in attendance . It was a quiet, eerie Charing X Collectors Market today. But I still managed to spend a few pounds on some good bargains. One of the 4 dealers in attendance told me it has been like this on many a Saturday during the last year because of those strikes.

these strikes are a pain - if pickings are lean you could always walk five hundred yards along the Strand and spend a few minutes in the company of SG. I've yet to visit the CharingX market - often think of going but either something gets in the way or I'm committed elsewhere. Is it possible to find bargains, or are the dealers very savvy? I've cultivated ladies in some of my charity shops, to keep stamps for me, but of course usual story which is that as time goes on it becomes more difficult to find the ones you want - so often I buy an album then end up giving 75% of the contents back. Sadly, at the moment, I see little chance of the rail strikes ending.

Michael ( Londonbus1 ), sorry to hear that yours was a disappointing visit to Charing Cross Market. I had a fine visit there two weeks ago now. I wish I had known about your trip to London, as Amy and I would have happily shifted our plans around for even a short visit with you! That said, it sounds like you are having a great time with the grandkids, and that’s wonderful. We left York just moments ago and are headed to Leeds for one night, then it’s off to Heathrow area by Monday evening and fly back to California on Tuesday. Hope that the rest of your trip goes well. Cheers!

Charing Cross Market, London Acquisitions from 8th July 2023I am almost a month late in posting these, but just thought some of you might enjoy seeing what I picked up at Charing Cross on the day after I arrived back in London. The Cape Triangle at the top cost about half the total that I spent for everything you can see here. I will eventually post all of these acquisitions in the appropriate country threads, but I wanted to give all of you some idea of what is available at the market.
