What I collect: German Area
|
Post by ausbrasilien on Nov 4, 2019 13:34:58 GMT
Dear fellow members of this forum:
I would like to thank you for my acceptance. Icollect stamps, coins, notgeld, banknotes and postcards from Germany. I started collecting stamps all over the world. Then an old philatelist in my Club, the Sociedade Filatélica Brasileira, told me to concentrate in only one country. So, I started to collect Brazilian stamps only. Then, anoter philatelist older than me told me that philately was diminishing in Brazil, and the value of Brazilian stamps would consequently decrease in time, as they realy did from the 80's to present time. So, I changed to Germany, as an enthusiast for History, this decision could not have been better. I have learned a lot with my collection.
I started the German Area with III Reich, moved to inflation period, German Empire Eagles and kept spreading my interests all over the so called german Area. Now I dedicate myself to assemble a decent collection of German Colonies and Post Offices abroad and German Occupations in World War I.
Although I have been collecting stamps for more than 30 years now and have managed to assemble a large amount of them, I have never had enough courage to present my collection in any stamp expo.
Now some fellow members of the other stamp club I have joined, the Club Filatélico Brasileiro, are helping me to start mounting my first presentation collection.
I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, have two grown up children and two small children. What else can I tell about me? Feel free to ask fellows!
Thank you!

Welcome to TSF, ausbrasilien! It's good to have you with us. I am a U.S. expatriate living abroad. I spent the past year and a half in France, and just relocated to the UK a month ago. I am a worldwide collector, but wondering if I should consider specializing more myself. I have recently spent a lot of time organizing my Germany collection, but I think there is nothing particularly special in my holdings. I discovered that I do have a special fondness for the Germania issues, and I have always liked the German colonial issues. Frankly, I like the German colonial issues more than those of the Fatherland. Again, welcome to the Forum, and enjoy your time with us. -Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

Welcome to the forum, ausbrasilien ! I just started collecting Germany last year. Interesting stamps you have posted, they do look suspect in that they are similar in appearance, but I'm sure there are many like that. Interesting! My collecting just entails Germany proper - not any of their exploits around the world, be it cities, states, islands or "enclaves"! It is still quite a country at that!

I have had the chance to be expatriated as well and was very happy when found the way to local stamp markets... Germania is a fascinating thing. Not only because there are the REICHPOST issue, the DEUTSCHES REICH issue without wasserzeichnung and with wasserzeichnung (how do I say that in English?), but also because there are the peace druck and the war druck. I have hard some hard time learning a little bit about those! If you get really crazy about germanias you can also get entangled with the surcharges of WWI occupations, post offices abroad and plebiscite, also foreign use of those. That is how my interest has expanded from Germany to the German area. Through Germania!

Hello and welcome on this forum!! Although I collect worldwide, I too love German stamps , right now organising GDR. GDR was not my main area of interest untill I have had the chance to buy a fantastic collection from the heirs of a decased Brazilian philatelist that I used to know. There are some Soviet Zone missing and also service stamps are not there, but I've got all commemoratives from 1949 to 1989 at once, and now I have a GDR collection, but I do not understand a thing about it...

.... the DEUTSCHES REICH issue without wasserzeichnung and with wasserzeichnung (how do I say that in English?) .... "Wasserzeichnung" = watermark. There's an excellent German-English philatelic dictionary available on the Austrian Philatelic Society website. Welcome to our forum! Ryan

Hi ausbrasilien,
Welcome to The Stamp Forum! I get most of my stamps from the envelopes that QSL cards come in - that's confirmation cards for ham radio contacts. Consequently, while I don't specifically collect German stamps, I do acquire some via the QSL card route. My stamp album devotes 4 pages to German stamps: Germany Pre 1945, East Germany, West Germany and Germany From 1990. Most of my German stamps are from the 1990 onwards era - I think, since they have Deutches Bundespost printed on them.
Yes, it's interesting what you can learn about a country from its stamps.
