I decided to upgrade to Windows 10 yesterday from Windows 7 and it went better than I expected. I cloned my SSD (have a spare) so if something with wrong I could always go back. I did have to upgrade an audio driver to get my docking station to work. Of course, Windows changed many preferences (browser, PDF default, etc) but amazed so much went unchanged. I also had reinstall Microsoft Office too when Word was acting weird but that was no big deal.
I went through the Win 10 transition on work machines a few months although was fresh install so a lot more familiar where they moved everything (some for good, some for not so good).

Great except for the forced updates unless you have the pro version. I especially like the surprise shut down message "update & shut down" that you have to bypass or wait till it gets done. One major update some while back took 8 hrs to complete I have modified the registry, set the update time early morning but it eventually overrides you. The updates also generally put back in what you tried to get rid of and change your settings.

I took the opportunity a few years back when XP was no longer supported to buy a cheap win7 and immediately take the free upgrade path. However the latest update was a positive change in image handling. It is much quicker to navigate through folders of images. Updates are a pain but free.

I will add that in Windows 10, Microsoft redid the folder structure somewhat (what was in the Document and Settings section). The OneDrive (cloud storage) is now more integrated rather than added on.
Also if you use OneNote you will see a new version (completely different interface) than what was included in Office previously. This comes with Windows build 1809 that was recently rolled out. The OneNote 2016 is still installed so you can use older interface.

Hi It's amazing. I am an EE and still will not open the "box". To clean the machine, and maybe upgrade, I will bring it to the Guru shop where I bought it. To me, Upgrade means having the shop build me another computer. Except for the first Gateway, all my computers have been custom built. I use the machine mainly for programming and creating documents. I will not change to Win10 from Win 7 until absolutely forced to. I was running XP until a some months ago when the Hard Drive failed and I bought a new computer. Jerry B

Hi angore I just noticed your comment: As far as I am concerned MS fouled up (am I allowed to use the wood fastener word for fouled ) everything with Windows 7 and 10. Really creating a mess with all these pre-defined folders, taking away productivity functions (floating toolbars for instance), combining C# and VB.NET into the same application. I have been so tempted to fix the XP machine and go back to XP and Office 2003. Enough ranting about MS. Jerry B
