Hello everyone.
I am Dale and I live in the Chicago suburbs. I work as a software engineer for a software company that provides services to hospital systems. Not the most exciting of industries, but it keeps me in stamps.
I have been collecting off and on since I was about 10 years old. My early collection was mostly cheap worldwide purchased from approval dealers like H. E. Harris, Jamestown Stamp Company, Falcon Stamp Company, etc. When my young mind replaced interest in stamps with interest in girls, my collection was given away by my mother to a cousin.
When I resumed semi-seriously about 20 years ago, I made the choice to collect worldwide. I did not make any decisions regarding albums at that time, so my stamps were kept in glassines and 102 cards.
Life again intervened and my meagre collection was boxed up. I moved from upstate New York to Illinois.
A couple years ago I decided it was time to break out the stamps once again. This time I wanted an album to place my stamps in. Having found a couple forums and blogs on worldwide collecting, I came to learn of the idea of collecting to an album. Not wanting to dig too large a hole for myself, I bought the new two volume Harris Statesman album with the goal of filling it.
It didn’t take long to realize that while I liked the album, there were far too many stamps I already owned which would not have a home without adding a lot of blank pages. I had become familiar with the Steiner pages, so I bought a subscription. I liked the idea of having a space for pretty much any stamp I might have.
Anyway, that’s enough about me for now. I look forward to learning from and interacting with everyone on the forum.
Best, Dale

Welcome Dale ( Statesman Stamper )! I like you, prefer not having empty spaces in my albums and create custom pages for my collection as a result. The Forum is a great place and there is plenty of information, discussions and postings that should appeal to a world-wide collector such as yourself; enjoy the time here!

Welcome Statesman Stamper. I collect used w/w too and have been making my own pages since the late 1990s. Always something new when collecting w/w, and printing one's own pages is the only way to go.
Looking forward to seeing your future posts.

Welcome from a another software engineer! I think programming and stamp collecting go pretty well together - or maybe a similar type of person likes both...

Dale,
Welcome to our Forum!
I'm sorry it took me so long to see your intro and update your membership status -- you are now able to post elsewhere on the Forum.
I am originally from Cicero but now reside in Northern Virginia. My Mother is still in my childhood home and I've got siblings living in Naperville, Custer Park and Bourbonnais.
Please let me know if you have any questions or encounter problems.
Are you planning on attending Chicagopex later this month?

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I have only just begun to discover the wealth of information on the forum. As winter descends my stamping time tends to go up, so I’m sure this will become a regular part of my day.

Welcome! Don't you just hate those empty spaces? On the bright side, it gives you a good reason to trade for more or purchase those you need. Me, I tend to buy in bulk, which usually gives me a lot to use to fill in holes on the pages (those that don't have a spot in an album go into Vario pages, as I have given up on homemade pages).

A belated welcome to TSF, Dale ( Statesman Stamper)! Sorry that I missed your original intro at the time, but wanted to add my welcome now. Your story is a familiar one.... start collecting as a youth, then reprise again as an adult. It has been the same for so many of us! Enjoy your time with us! -Chris
