Hi! Help identify the stamp. I have a stamped envelope like this in my hand. I'm not a specialist in stamps, just learning. I don't know much about ordinary stamps, let alone the United States. I decided to ask for help on several forums. Maybe you can help me.

US 1861 3 cent George Washington
Michel has it as #18- I'm at work and that's all i can find online- If the envelope is intact I would leave it on the envelope.
Unless you will be collecting modern issues, an older Scott catalogue can be gotten on eBay for not much cost and would give you something to reference -much faster than waiting for a response and the catalogue conains a lot of useful information
there are specialized catalogues (much more detailed) and general catalogs, (basically shows one type of each without getting to far in to color varieties, shades and sub-types

Hi! Thank you for your help. The envelope is in good condition. I think I'll leave it on the envelope. I found an image of this stamp on the Internet thanks to the help on this forum. The stamp is really very cool. I am proud that I have it in my collection and will take an important place. Yes, I am planning to buy catalogues. Because I understand that without catalogues it will be difficult to do this hobby. washington 3c red
