I thought I'd post a review of the Van Dam album maybe to help those interested get an idea off it's content. The opinions expressed are strictly my own and in no way reflect on any of the work done to produce this specialty work. The first thing I noticed was the inconsistences in the listing of varieties. this is the page presented for the first bill stamps. There is no page for the varieties. Here is a page listing the varieties on some law stamps.Mant of these would be considered very rare. The other thing I have noticed was that some pages while maintaining consistency become way to crowded fast.If you use hinges it would probably work a bit better but the layout is IMO still very crowded. My rating would be three stars.

I agree those are way too close together. You’d almost have to worry about mashing perfs into each other.
Plus, I’m fond of selvage markings. Too many albums leave zip, zero, zilch room for extra selvage. I shudder to think how many interesting tabs and selvage have been removed to fit into stamp albums.

I have to say this is one reason I always create my own pages . I know it takes time , but buying in to someone else’s work costs money , never quite suits my collecting, never has spaces for varieties and as Terri philatelia says encourages philatelic vandalism. How many GB Victorian embossed , US postal stationery , Commonwealth Wing margin stamps have been cut down to fit artificial spaces in older albums.?

vikingeck I found the two volume set(used) at a price I couldn't turn down. The retail on this two volume set is already quite high.My revenues will end up on a mix of the Van dam pages and my usual quadrilles. If I can live another 70 years(yeah right) maybe I'll complete most of them.

Isn't it great when you can buy the collection AND the album together! Wow - you can save a bundle with that type of purchase. I've been watching for cheap auctions just so I can get some used padded binders with slip cases. Whatever is inside becomes be a bonus. Another way that we stamp collectors can have our cake and eat it too!

It would be interesting to compare the Van Dam album to the free Canada Federal Revenues album that can be downloaded from www.thestampweb.com/albums.htmlThis album which contains only Federal issues, is ordered in accordance with the Van Dam Canadian Revenue Stamp Catalogue, 2009, but unnumbered to avoid copyright issues.
The PDF files are formatted to fit 10 x11.5 paper, but this can easily be changed by instead downloading the source files and using AlbumEasy to change the page size

Thanks for the posts firstfrog2013 and clivel; all good examples of layouts for those of us that create our own album pages including what works and what does not! Sometimes we need a little inspiration...
