I just started working on my Canada Collection last night and came across these covers. This fella managed to use canceled FDCs for postage! Yikes! Very, um bold, eh?

I apologize, renden , I didn’t explain myself well - these FDCs someone opened up the envelopes and used the canceled envelope and the stamps years after they were issued - as postage! I’m not offering them as a trade, I wanted to show how someone got away with taking canceled stamps and getting full Postal value for them. Sneaky!

That Year of the Snake issue is probably my favourite of all modern Canadian stamps. Unfortunately the oddball shape makes it tough for users to separate the stamps without tearing off a little bit of the corner(s) at the bottom of the stamp - I bet over half of the used copies in my possession have short corners. Even this image from the old Canadian Postal Archives site has a slightly shortened corner on the left side. That image doesn't do a good job of showing the pearlescent background image which you can see when tipping the stamp to the correct angle - the smaller image gives a better idea of that (although that stamp has a short perf tooth above "Snake"). There is very strong embossing on the snake - boy I like that stamp!! I wonder whose job it was to try to separate corner blocks off of the sheets for sale? I'd hate to have that job - I could hardly get one stamp off the sheet, never mind an intact block of four .... Ryan

I have received stamp purchases from a dealer inside FDC with added postage to make up the current rate. I think I passed them on to someone. The second of your photos with address in black marker looks like his penmanship. Is a FDC considered “ postally used “ by Canada Post?

I think it’s the same dealer.
Not sure what Canada post says, but to me a FDC cancel is almost a CTO unless the cover actually went through the system.

Here's one for you Philatelia A couple of years ago I purchased something on eBay (can't remember what it was) from an Ottawa dealer. The item came in this envelope, a FDC of a 1986 Molly Brant stamp. I thought it was odd at the time that he sent it in a first day cover. Even worse is Canada Post didn't even cancel the additional stamps placed on the cover. So I can't even tell you what year I made the purchase! You can be sure it wasn't 1986! I've deleted his address and mine (even though I don't live there anymore).
