I like to think that I’m fairly intelligent. Finding the name of a country I’ve never heard of makes me feel less than intelligent. Ifni. That’s a new one to me. I found some stamps this evening from this country that I’ve never heard of in a lot I’m plowing through. I love to learn. I think that’s why I do this.

daveg28,
i have a few of these stamps in my Spanish West Africa folder. I know when I found them i was bewildered. A bit of reading got me up to date.
i did fins a bit of info about the region with a simple search of Wikipedia. .
Region disputed by Spain and Morocco after WW II. In 1958 the area officially integrated into Morocco.
A site I use often to identify unknown countries is dcstamps.com. Dead Country Stamps. Very informative site about countries or territories that issued stamps but were later absorbed by another country . The site give the owners definition of “ Dead Country” criteria as it relates stamps. Lots of images and links to historical notes abou the country or region.
No, Ifni is not listed the but much of the Moroccan regions are listed.
Hope this helps out.
David

Yes, stamp collecting sure brings out the obscure "dead countries". Inini is one I wasn't aware of before collecting. Lots of historical reading on Wikipedia whenever that happens!
