Does anyone know of a phone or computer program that will identify colors with correct stamp appropriate names? I have tried a couple of phone apps but the color names are not the same as those used for stamp identification. I am red-green color blind which makes the philatelic color chart that I have not very helpful so I frequently have to ask my wife for help when there are two shades of the same stamp. Even she can not tell me the difference between colors such as carmine rose and rose carmine.

Sorry for you and sorry for the majority of us since catalogs (various) do not use the same color language - Just compare Scott's colors of France to Maury or Yvert & Tellier - different worlds - I would be impressed to find what you are asking for. I am not colour blind, but I can't tell rose-carmine from carmine-rose either! Same with any stamp that has a variety of the colour name shifted like that! The variation is so subtle!
I don't know of any app that you are asking for. All I know for id'ing colours is the Pantone system. But that is probably a few bucks more than what most people I'm sure want to spend. And then, it only spits out Pantone names.
Sorry I am no help to you!

René I only use Scott catalogs so would be interested in the Scott colors. Maybe a tech expert could construct such an app by tweaking the ones that are already available but with philatelic colors and shades.

Color is the most ambiguous area of the hobby. I have a color chart and a fairly good eye for shading but there are too many sources and opinions to nail down most nuances. I know two different shades/colors when I put them side by side. But how did they arrive at thir differences? Was it storage issues or possibly minor variances in dye colors and or ink stability that brought about the differences. I record all catalog varieties but take with a grain of salt the sometimes significant valuations for the catalog listings.
