For just a few years as Greece was freeing itself from the Ottoman Empire, the British occupied the Ionian islands Establishing a naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean following the Crimean War 1851-56. They still play English cricket in Corfu.
When the islands were passed to Greek control in 1864 the unused stamps in three colours red, blue and yellow, came on the market. You can acquire a complete country collection of just 3 stamps relatively easily. Used examples however are scarce, and on cover they fetch fine four figure sums.
