First of all you can import whatever you want of data from Colnect. But it will not import your notes from colnect (quantitys and other things you have written on your colnect) Stamp mate has no data on anything, you have to import or/and add it yourself. It has I think 80 different reports you can write out, or export to a lot of formats. It is customable. I have not used it long enough to be able to tell to much. It is free to download and try. Please see this site for More info

I've just had a play with the free version - it's limited to 1000 items, and seems to have limits on how much it will download from Colnect. Fair enough to allow you to have a taste of the product I guess.
I do like the look of the app, and am tempted to spend the €35 for a license just to see how it fares with the "Download from your Colnect account" option, and some of the other features that are limited in the free version.
However, the download of data I tried doesn't pull in the paper, watermark or description fields from Colnect, all of which are vital to distinguishing some variants of the stamps. I also noticed at least one stamp where it had set the colour to a different value than it was on the Colnect page... I'm planning to report these issues to their support alias to see if they plan to resolve them.

Not available for Mac, but is available for IOS. I installed it on my iPad. Full version cost $8.99US lifetime. Took me a couple tries to work out the downloading part, but now have all of Australia on my iPad.
I don't have a Colnect account (yet), so won't comment on that.

I have my whole collection registered on colnect. So why bother with Stamp Mate? I did ask myself this question, and I have some answers, an I might going to change some things regarding to how I do things. The strength of colnect is that all the basic is alredy there, + some specialitys. And it is growing. You have the possibility to meet thousands of other collectors and comparing wish/want lists take a second. The week point of it is that adding your special items and variants take so.e time to get approval. You are limited to colnect users as exchange partners. Stamp mate has posibilitys to make reports in at least 80 different ways. You can export to excel, open office, html and so on. What I'm thinking now is that I will maintain my wish/want list at Colnect, and have my collection at Stamp Mate. But I have to test this idea some time before I finally decide if it is a good solution.

In Stamp Mate you are completly free to add as mucht you like. You can with ease clone an exitsting post (stamp) and then upload your own image of it and change the number. But read the manual, limit size of the images or else you will create a gigabyte monster of a database file

OI thought that it was tied to Colnect. I haven't done much there, as it'll take a LOT of clicking to get my collection in it. But if it can be done without Colnect, then maybe I'll look into to it.

Stamp Mate has noting to do with Colnect. But you can use colnect to download the basic stamp info and images into Stamp Mate. But You dont have to. Stamp Mate come with an sample database with stamps, I dont remember but I think it was about 100 stamps from some Island ...... So it is up to you to do whatever you like, but if you have a free Colnect account you can Automatically import stamp information with images using Colnect's online database with more than 864.000 stamps from 484 countries.

Oh well, downloaded the app then deleted it. In my mind it is awfully set up, with lots of little niggles that just got to me. I was thinking of sending them an email, but there was just too much to complain about besides, I didn’t like the look of it & if I’d be doing a lot with it, I have to like what I am looking at! I’ll stick with my spreadsheets & pdf’s.

They will add a text field to allow for description of the watermark, rather than just a checkbox. Unfortunately the sync of paper, watermark and description from Colnect can't be achieved due to API limitations on the website. The Colnect poor sync of the colour details was a mistake on my part. I've gone back and asked if there is a possibilty to allow upload of changed information to the Colnect account as well. Still sadly not enough to make me want to use it - it just doesn't have all the features the website gives me...

I agree that the inport is not 100%. But it gives me the boring basics and I can build the database as I want it. Colour on old stamps comes in several shades, an must be changed anyway. I have now started with Bavaria/Bayern and working my way through the catalogue (Michel Special) I have built a database with shades far beyond colnect. I don't want that detail level on colnect as it would not gain the average collector. On colnect I will maintain my have/wish list as this is what I use when doing exchanges. My have list on colnect is not that important. I will have that on Stamp Mate.

I can't see what features this program don't give you that Colnect does, except from the great exchange options on colnect. I will have the both, because they both are great. In Stamp Mate I can build a detailed have list of my collection. The detail level is not possible and not wanted on Colnect. On colnect I will have my wish and have list and be connected to 43000 other stamp collectors who can check if I have stamps for them and they have stamps for me, with no need to eyballing lists and translate numbers from one catalogue to another, it's already done.
