Luxembourg has issued some precancel stamps, but I cant find a complete list of them in catalogues. Would like to have a list or anything to see what and when issued. I have these three.

Hi, tobben63! These are very nice Luxembourg precancels. I don't know much about them myself, but I think that Peter ( brightonpete) probably knows more, as he has previously posted about precancels (different type from yours) on this other thread: thestampforum.boards.net/post/56685/threadHopefully, either Peter or someone else will be able to respond in full. Have a stampy day, my friend!

Thanks Chris ( Beryllium Guy) Yes I saw Peter ( brightonpete) post in the other tread. But I thought we could have a separate tread on precancels

No problem, tobben63, I agree that having a separate thread for precancels is a fine idea. I was just trying to suggest that as Peter is a long-time Luxembourg collector, and he has posted about precancels before, there is a reasonable chance that he may have a catalogue to help you accurately identify what you have. That was all!

These are the hand-stamped precancels. I don't have any of this type, just the other that I posted elsewhere. Here is the page from the 2017 Prifix Michel Luxembourg catalogue...

Thanks Peter. Not much information in the Michel (witch I have the catalogue). I have read that there is 125 stamps with precancel from Luxembourg. I think the Prix catalogue is what I'm looking for

The only specialized reference I am aware of is "Les Préoblitérations du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg 1900 à 1925" by Yperman published ~WWII. I don't have this book, so I can't tell you if it has a comprehensive list or not.
I haven't gotten the Prifix catalog yet. Does it have a comprehensive list? Or is the page shown, all that it has regarding the 2 basic types of precancels?

I haven't gotten the Prifix catalog yet. Does it have a comprehensive list? Or is the page shown, all that it has regarding the 2 basic types of precancels? The Prifix catalogue does include a listing for 153 different precanceled stamps, plus a few varieties (double surcharges, missing digits, things like that) and a listing for "CARITAS" precursors. Leastwise, the Prifix catalogue contained that listing as of my old 1996 edition. Hopefully they haven't gotten rid of any info in newer catalogues. I also have a Precancel Stamp Society catalogue for "foreign" precancels (not from USA or Canada) which was released in 2005. Be careful if buying that one - there is an older PSS catalogue for foreign precancels which only consisted of France, Algeria, Tunisia & Monaco, and that one will be more commonly seen if you're buying used catalogues. Unless you're also looking for info on other precancels (especially Belgian stamps, which make up the majority of the catalogue) I don't think there's much reason for buying the PSS book unless you are unable to find a Prifix. In the Luxembourg listings the PSS catalogue says "most of the information & pricing is from the PRIFIX catalogue 2004". By the way, Luxembourg Ville is the only location found on those roller precancels as shown in the initial post. Belgium had lots of different cities on their precancels, but Luxembourg only ever had one. Ryan

And on looking in the PSS catalogue listings, 2 of Torbjørn's stamps have a fairly high value to them. The 2 cent 1906 stamp has a PSS value of US $0.45, but the 4 cent 1906 is listed at US $15 and the 5 cent 1904 at US $40.

Ryan , I didn't know that PSS had produced an International Precancel Catalog back in 2005 until you posted! Thanks!

Ah right, a complete list, and all I did was give you the information on the ones you displayed above. I count 28 individual stamps with pre-cancel overprints, but then they were dated as to the years they were valid for. So many different in total. Plus, the Michel Prifix 2017 doesn't list any errors or varieties, save for the description in the scan I provided above.

Plus, the Michel Prifix 2017 doesn't list any errors or varieties, save for the description in the scan I provided above. Note that my 1996 Prifix I referenced (and, presumably, the 2004 Prifix referenced in the PSS catalogue) dates from the days before the alliance between Prifix and Michel. Mine is printed & published in Luxembourg and the prices within are quoted in Luxembourg francs. The catalogue is bilingual in French & German, same as the newer Michel Prifix. I see that the Michel quotes only the cheapest year for the precancels, whereas my older Prifix and the PSS show a value for each year for each stamp (as well as for each orientation - vertical up, vertical down, horizontal, horizontal but upside down). My catalogue also has a somewhat different numbering scheme, apparently a duplicate of the Yvert & Tellier numbers, although Michel numbers are included in the listing in brackets behind the main listing number. Whooda thunk there would be so many varieties and errors with these precancels? Certainly not me!

You should see the old Prifix listing for varieties on the "Officiel" stamps. The 1883 Allegory set alone has 34 listed varieties in my Prifix. I don't think I need to worry about finding too many of them in my piles of kiloware - only 7 of them are shown for less than 1000 Lux. francs ...

I think I could spend a couple of months there. Do they allow roll-away cots in there?

This listing of Luxembourg Precancels was provided to the Forum by Wiliam Symes, a collector of worldwide precancels who has been a member of the Precancel Stamp Society for over 50 years. Bill was one of the 4 who produced the PSS catalog on France, Monaco, Tunisia & Algeria in 1985. He wasn't sure of the source as it was sent to him by another collector many years ago. If you are interested in contacting Bill, he may be reached by email at wgs092045 AT gmail DOT com.

I've had these pre-cancels for some time now, and am just wondering how to mount them. I figured by year, so this is what I have come up with...
I just have two Adolphe's, 6 years for the Coat of Arms & Wilhelm, plus 4 years of Grand Duchess Charlotte, with a couple new colours and an overprint. There are many more to be had, not that I have seen any since, so this will be all I'll have. They will be placed at the end of the definitives section.
The page a bit fuzzy with a white background, as it is just an export from the PDF. The actual printout will be on the typical green cardstock & quite clear. Edits to follow!

In the interests of brevity, I changed up the format. I suppose I could have put Wilhelm off on his own, but he fit quite well with the coat of Arms series.
Better in the album than hidden away in a stockbook! I doubt I'll ever find any others. I have yet to see any since I bought these.
