How about a thread to display those neat covers which arrive in our daily mail?
I was surprised to see this pound value, a new stamp to me.
I did some eBay searching and it appears to be from a commemorative sheet showing 4 high-value castles of 2005 if I recall correctly. Do these see much postal use? Let's see what has dropped in your mailbox lately!

OK, today I received a couple mailings with stamps in them. One from Scotland and one from Moose Jaw. Both didn't see a cancel of any kind. Air least they weren't pen-cancelled!

Jeffs....This stamp was part of a 4 stamp sheet, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the high value castle definitive set.Denominations were changed to decimal currency.I very much doubt if many were used for postage at the time of issue. I saw many sheets on sale for face value last time I was in UK . I have also mail with these stamps.Probably senders buy them at reduced rates to help with postage costs.

anglobob- sounds similar to the US Columbian reprint sheets, and even the original Columbian Issue which still had values available from the USPOD as late as 1917 (or so)

This arrived recently from Italy. Some type of computer vended postage. I assume this is a post office applied postage as the ink in the imprint does not match the ink in the address. Does this have a particular name in the Italian community?

If I'm reading the International Postage Meter Stamp Catalog/Italy correctly, the impression was made by a Pitney Bowes (digital) counter service machine in the Gravina in Puglia post office on November 22, 2019 -- the catalog identifies it as PO19.

Thank you Steve - Meter it is. I tend to complicate items I am not aware of. Gereat additional info as well, will annotate the back of the cover thus.

I just noticed that from your message, alanl! Why do we have postal codes if they don't mean anything? I guess I was lucky. They all probably know me at Canada Post as I do get more than the average amount of letter mail!

Hmmm...I wonder how I did that? I used the address list and I must have glanced at it a couple of times as I was writing the address on the envelope. With the close proximity of alanl and brightonpete on the list I must have mixed up the two. Sorry, but I am glad it reached you.

Here is an interesting cover that was dropped into the letterbox earlier today,
The penguin stamps enclosed are a welcome addition to the thematic collection, but what caught my eye on the cover is what appears to be a sprayed-on slogan & postmark; I think they are getting better...
Happy collecting!

Falkland Used from the UK
This is the second such item received from the past few years. Is the use of the Falkland adhesive from the UK just a fluke, allowed to pass unnoticed? Or is something else at work here.
This is a neat Penguin stamp franking, a WWF stamp too.

The penguin cover is great JeffS and macaroni penguins at that! This is one of the penguin species that did not get covered in the " Penguins Don’t Fly, They Swim!" article, maybe a follow-up is in order ;-) As for the use of the Falkland Islands postage on a UK-originating cover, I do not know...
Happy collecting!

A USA non-profit, solicitation cover arriving this past week (I like that they use genuine postage stamps!) A friend in Australia sent this lovely A$3.20 "International Post" stamp celebrating the " Centenary of First England to Australia Flight 1919" issued in 2019... a close-up of the stamp:

Today, I received this nice letter from Algeria. Too bad the stamps aren't SON'd for me, but I'll keep the cover intact anyway... It included a number of stamps from Algeria, Mali and the Comores Archipel.

Is this a french "meter" or vended postage from a post office?
Only "value" expressed is "international"
It certainly is clean and tidy!

I received quite the plethora in today’s mail but, unfortunately, some of the stamps were damaged. At least the marker monkeys didn’t get ahold of anything!

In today's mail:A purchase from France, lots of older art stamps. I note the sender accounted for the postage per notation in the upper left corner.
