In our mail, usually most mail comes from non-profits and now more political groups asking for money. The rest is commercial (bills because we do not always rely on electronic notification. The only mail not using bulk rate is usually a philatelic purchase.

My mount order from Global Stamps arrived yesterday. I have no complaints here. It is plastered with mostly undamaged stamps and no pen or marker cancellations.

Global Stamps must have a great rapport with the local postal outlet they use to get nice cancels like that!

Cover from UK received earlier this week, with the first stamps received after the lock down. The light at the end of the tunnel? let's hope so!

Yesterday's mail is still making me thrilled! Bought the stamps shown couple weeks ago from a seller on eBay and received mail yesterday. The sender also included the shown booklet in 4 languages detailing the stamp in the inset. The Seller even used 2 of the same stamps I purchased on the letter. What a windfall! I don't know if its a special promotion of Stockholm Post. I'm loving it! After re-examining this envelope carefully, hidden under the back flap I found the words FORSTADAGSBREV. FIRST DAY COVER. More thrilled!

The Seller even used 2 of the same stamps I purchased on the letter. The 1975 set from the long-running "Nobel Prize winners of 60 years ago" series. I'm jealous! Fun fact, the Physics winners are a father-and-son team, William Henry and William Lawrence Bragg, discoverers of X-ray diffraction crystallography. Their portraits hung in good place in the halls of the McGill physics department where I studied undergrad (I suspect they still do). The son, Lawrence, is still the youngest Physics Nobel Prize recipient on record, at age 25.

I purchased the set to use that particular stamp in an exhibit on the discovery of DNA and the people who directly or indirectly contributed to this work. I think they influenced the research back then. Thank you for the factoid.

Just for thoughts...has anyone noticed that the stamp in my previous posts "A Girl's Head" was engraved by the reknowned Czesław Słania? Interesting eh?

I think they influenced the research back then. Thank you for the factoid. Indeed they did, since the DNA molecular structure was discovered using X-ray diffractometry. The trick for it to work, though, is to build a crystal of the molecule you're trying to study. For biological samples, sometimes this can be far from trivial.

Another mailbag has arrived from outside of Portugal and brought a few items to the doorstep earlier today,
In addition to the nicely cancelled block honouring Roméo LeBlanc, a former Governor General of Canada and recipient of the Order of Canada, the science and train issues from Spain, my favourite has to be the French stamp issued as part of for that country's Modern Art series and depicts a work by Leonard Foujita,
For myself, the imagery and flats captured are not unlike those found in Jacques Tati's film, " Mon Oncle"...
Happy collecting!

A recent mailing from France, looks like the postage is a computer generated/printed label. The first I've seen of these. Any technical info will be greatly appreciated.

Indeed, this is an example of a service by the French Post, now available for a couple of years, by which you can print your own stamps at home. It has become more prevalent recently because of the lockdown and many post offices being closed and/or with reduced service. You go to the French Post website (laposte.fr), create an account, create your design, and print the labels yourself. Of course, it's also available for businesses. I have never used this service myself. I think that every time you print, you get a whole page of labels, and your account is then charged for the equivalent postage these labels represent. Philatelically, for myself, I do not count such labels as stamps and have not been saving much that have come my way, which actually has been pretty few. If the design is nice or special to me in some way, I might save the cover.

In today’s mail ...............not such a neat item thanks to UK PARCEL FORCE [aka PARCEL FARCE ] lovely Ausie mini sheets underneath a damaged sticky label , why could they not stick it on the back? I doubt if I’ll be able to rescue the mini sheets , the Golf one is already torn .... lighter fluid in the open air .? the other sad thing is the auction house used this mailing 33x24 cm for ONE STAMP ! and charged $26 for the privilege

Just had a wrestling match armed with a kitchen knife getting into my Aussie package . Heavy adhesive on package. Sellotape all round . Then a polythene wrapper with more sellotape round a double card , sellotape sealed, all to liberate the one stamp. Status International Auction must be Scotchtape’s best customer . If that knife had slipped I was in danger of an injury. i.ibb.co/A55-AB539-B9

While I'm struggling with sellotape/ Scotchtape can I show this piece of vandalism arrived recently. What a messy way to fix and to ruin stamps . WHY , "oh WHY DELILAH "? Some people are really beyond credibility! It came from a stamp collector trader on ebay. At least the contents were sellotape free !

Yesterday, I got this cover bearing some pre-euro Andorra French PO stamps (nice to have them on a circulated letter)
Due to covid restrictions, it took 22 days to cover the 200 km from Andorra de Barcelona (3 hours by car). But, arrived safely with a nice FDC.
I guess, it went throught France, despite of the origin, Sant Julià de Lòria, being just 20 km from the Catalan town, la Seu d'Urgell.

Well this is new! A small envelope - approximately two ounces, but thick from a packet of stamps arrived $3.65 postage due! ? What in the world? Shouldn’t a too thick envelope be non machinable rate?

philatelia - if the envelope is thicker than 1/4" then the rate goes to a "package" However this could have been sent as first class package for much less. Your PO got greedy with the postage assessment. I'd let the sender know your situation.

That inkjet gets sprayed on in Mississauga (more than likely) whether the stamps have been cancelled or not.
I get the clerk here in town (usually) to cancel the stamps with their rubber stamper, but then it gets sprayed anyway later on, even when wrapped with a notice to handle with care!

Received today, a cardboard envelope with the following franking: a smattering of modern Mariannes, a make-your-own-stamp issue, and a scratch-off "good wishes" stamp, among others, all French self-adhesives: This envelope contained some goodies that I will post soon for your viewing enjoyment.

Yesterday, I posted a letter to myself from the Andorra la Vella Spanish PO, hoping to get a modern postmark of the Andorra's capital. See, what I got instead:
It was postmarked on my own town! I knew that the Spanish PO were dealing with all items mailed from all around Catalonia from the main Post facilities in Barcelona. It seems that this also includes mail posted in Andorra, as it was just another Catalan town. I guess Andorran people won't like it... If they ever know. I don't think they use post very much.
But, from now on I know that, if I want a circulated stamp from Andorra, I just have to go to Barcelona's GPO Philatelic Bureau, buy the Andorra stamps (they stock them all!) and post the letter in the nearest postbox. I'll get the same pm as if posted in Andorra!
We'll see what happens with the two letters posted from the French PO...
