I know that 1 Canada Permanent stamp pays the current domestic rate. Considering that it costs $2.71 to mail a letter internationally if I were to use at least 1 Permanent stamp to pay the cost how much is actually being paid? Is it 92 cents, 95 cents, $1.00? Just what is it?
Thanks,
erthur

You got me! On checking the web site, it is supposed to be 92¢. But on checking their iOS app, it states: $1.07, which includes tax, so 95¢. On using their idiot "Find a Rate" for in town mailing, they say $1.21 (less 13% tax) equates to $1.07! I don't believe this! It should be 92¢ worth of stamps. I mailed a package to renden on Friday. Using their "Find a Rate," it said $3.60. So I put on $3.61. But that rate included tax. It should have been $3.19. I wish they'd get things sorted out with pricing! erthur: go to your post office and see just how much the "P" stamp is - without tax! I'll be doing that tomorrow, just to be sure.

brightonpete I am as confused as you are. The math just doesn't work out. If the $1.07 is with the tax included on the single stamp then the stamp itself has a value of $0.95 (1.07 divided by 1.13). On the other hand by purchasing Permanent stamps in booklets (usually 10 stamps) the cost is $0.92, exclusive of tax I am assuming. It appears then that Canada Post is discounting the postage when domestic rate stamps are purchased in quantity, i.e. booklets.

So I guess, when adding your own postage, one can add up the total using 92 cents for each P stamp, no matter when issued.

On the other hand I have never read or heard that a Permanent stamp could not be used for either US or International mail. While at my local postal outlet the attendant did not allude to this when I questioned about the value of a Permanent stamp for International mail. The response was that 3 Permanent stamps could be used to pay for the International rate which would have resulted in an overpayment by 5 cents. But this does not even make sense because the math still does not work out, ($2.71 -$.05) divided by 3 = $0.87.

I do it all the time. The P does have value & can be combined with others to make up the three rates.

Yesterday I mailed an international letter . I used two « P » stamps and made up rest with others to total to the full $2.71 rate.
as the current value of the « P » stamp is $1.07 I used 2 of them.
when you buy a booklet of these stamps, you are paying only $.92 plus tax.
When using the stamp, always count the value of today’s rate for a domestic letter.
i stocked up on Christmas stamps before the rate changed so I got even more of a discount .
I am waiting to see if I get the letter returned to make postage adjustment.
Time will tell what Canada Post will do.

In mailing renden's package, the clerk believed me when I said I put $3.61 on it! Now I know I can undercut the rate. Maybe it'll go through, maybe postage will be due. I wouldn't mind seeing postage dues come to me. It would be interesting to see how it is marked.

The auction letter I received from Moose Jaw had 92 cents postage on it.
So count P's as 92 cents, and use wherever!
