Sweden 4sk banco issued 1st July 1855 Oh dear here I go again, being pedantically nit picking. This is actually Sweden #2 in the catalogues . Though it was issued on the same day, Facit Scandinavia gives the honour of Sweden No 1 to the similar but very scarce 3 Skilling Banco in Green ( priced at £4000 used I unfortunately don't have it !) Haha, it's ok to be pedantic when doing it in a polite way  And you're obviously right. I happen to have Sweden no.1. Not in the best state though (repaired) - but authenticity certified by expert Mr. Sjøman, so it does as a spacefiller. My apologies for poor scan, it was scanned for another purpose, creating these VIRTUAL SWEDEN ALBUM PAGES that required small image size.  |

I like this thread, lots of nice stamps guys! Interesting to see #1's for lots of different areas, the differences of the year of issue of the first stamp tells a story in itself about birth of the different independent nations, in particular for former colonies. I particular like the extraordinary nice German colonies #1's shared by hrdoktorx - and the huge amount of other #1's - what a man!! |

hrdoktorx - thanks for keeping your #1's coming! Here's Brazil #1, don't think it's been shown yet? As a matter of curiosity Brazil in 1843 was the 3rd country in the world to issue stamps, so this is a true classic - and the oldest postage stamp of America. (Cropped from my DIY album page)
