Recently purchased an album with sixteen different world wide number ones. First one is easy, 1840 penny black. Will put the others up shortly. Hopefully others can contribute so we can see as many number ones as possible. Graham

Sweden 4sk banco issued 1st July 1855 Oh dear here I go again, being pedantically nit picking. This is actually Sweden #2 in the catalogues . Though it was issued on the same day, Facit Scandinavia gives the honour of Sweden No 1 to the similar but very scarce 3 Skilling Banco in Green ( priced at £4000 used I unfortunately don't have it !)

Isabella was so Vain or the Authorities were concerned about Lesse majeste , defacing her portrait , that the special cancel had a space in the middle to leave the Queen's face free. This cancel is called "araña" or Spider in Spanish

Another # 1 - right after my New Brunswick # 1 post Australia issues postage stamps for the Australian Antarctic Territory. The first issues came in 1957, and sporadically thereafter, settling into a pattern of an annual issue by the 1990s. All have been Antarctic-themed, and all are valid for postage in Australia and its territories, including Antarctica. This is # 1 or Scott # L1 - 1957

The 4RBS was issued first But appears in catalogues as #2 1st April 1854 and the 2 RBS a month later , 2 May 1854 gets catalogue Number 1 It's strange and I don't know the tale. Facit has the blue Rigsbank-Skilling first issued 1 April 1851 and 'May 1851' (no day specified), but listed as no.1, and the brown Fire RBS as no. 2, although it apparently really was issued on 1 April. It's the not first example of arbitrary cataloguing, but it follows the usual formula of listing lowest values in a series first, regardless of their actual release date.
I love these little things; so small. They must be among the most expensive of all stamps in value per square millimeter. You've handsome ones.

After Allenstein, here we go for another # 1 Central LithuaniaThe Republic of Central Lithuania or Middle Lithuania (Polish: Republika Litwy Środkowej, Lithuanian: Vidurio Lietuvos Respublika, Belarusian: Рэспубліка Сярэдняй Літвы / Respublika Siaredniaj Litvy), or Central Lithuania (Polish: Litwa Środkowa, Lithuanian: Vidurio Lietuva or Vidurinė Lietuva, Belarusian: Сярэдняя Літва / Siaredniaja Litva), was a short-lived political entity which did not gain international recognition. The republic was created in 1920 following the rebellion of soldiers of the 1st Lithuanian–Belarusian Infantry Division of the Polish Army under Lucjan Żeligowski, supported by the Polish air force, cavalry and artillery.[1] (Wikipedia) Scott #1 - 25f red imperf and perf 11 1/2 - 1920-21

I love this thread idea. I actually knew someone at the Greifswald stamp club in Germany that specifically collected number one stamps. He had quite an extensive and impressive coverage. I'll see what I can do. The first one I found, leafing through my Y&T catalogs: Guinea(-Conakry), issued in 1958:
