Turkey #1 - 1863 Unfortunately the Ottoman stamp is the extremely common forgery It accounts for almost all the Tughra stamps on auctions Genuine left, forgery right Aside from many small details, The "secret" small vertical mark top right between the lines is missing and the dot besides the numeral is too low The Cilicia stamps are 95% forgeries it should be something like this I make no opinion on the stamp shown

Good eye Marking! I just grabbed a random image...here's a genuine one to keep the thread pure:
If we're going to get technical, the actual Turkey #1 is this one, issued in 1862 - just not listed in Scott:
And for those interested, a more detailed picture of what to look for in genuine versions of these problematic stamps!!

Ah, Xavier ( hrdoktorx), I should have guessed that the Kenya & Uganda 1-cent brown KGV definitive might be YT 1. Why not? Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika is one of those stamp-issuing entities for which the names and borders changed over the years, so there can be several "number ones" just depending on where one decides to make the distinctions. The Gibbons Catalogue is different from both Scott and Yvert & Tellier. For comparison: K-U-T, Sc 1, 1-cent black KGV definitive issued in 1921, inscribed East Africa & Uganda Protectorates K-U-T, YT 1, 1-cent brown KGV definitive issued in 1922, inscribed Kenya & Uganda K-U-T, SG 1, 1/2-anna surcharged on 1-penny QV GB definitive issued in 1890, inscribed British East Africa Company K-U-T, SG 1, 1/2-anna green KEVII definitive issued in 1904, inscribed East Africa & Uganda Protectorates So, there are even more permutations in addition to those already posted. Unfortunately, I don't have either of the SG 1 stamps to post. I am imagining that K-U-T is one of the more complex stories, but I am a bit surprised at the differences between these major catalogue publishers. Both of the SG 1 designations are completely different from the Scott and YT ones!

The reason Scott and SG disagree is because Scott lists the British East Africa stamps (SG1 starts here) as a separate entity , then another entity as the East Africa and Uganda Protectorate (another Scott 1) then became KUT (another Scott 1). The catalog states KUT starts with Kenya joining protectorate. This is a useful history lesson.

Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika is one of those stamp-issuing entities for which the names and borders changed over the years, so there can be several "number ones" just depending on where one decides to make the distinctions. The Gibbons Catalogue is different from both Scott and Yvert & Tellier. For comparison: For the K-U-T territories, the YT catalog also is pretty difficult to follow, with the following chronology: British East Africa: 1890-1897 issues (YT#1 - 91) and then East Africa & Uganda Protectorate (1903-1922, YT#92-166). Kenya & Uganda: the 1922-27 GV issues (YT #1-28), followed by the Kenya-Uganda-Tanganyika issues (1935-1963, YT #29-128). East Africa, which are the stamps labelled Kenya-Uganda-Tanganyika & Zanzibar (1964, YT#129-132) followed by Kenya-Uganda-Tanzania (1965-1976, YT#133-308). Kenya on its own, starting in 1963. Number 1 for these is posted in this thread already, from the "Uhuru 1963" series. Uganda issues start in 1895 with some local post issues (YT# 1-12), followed by Uganda Protectorate in 1896-1902 (YT#13-45) and then resume in 1962 (YT #46-). Tanganyika has its own stamps from 1922 to 1931 (YT#1-39, #1 posted in thread), then resumes in 1961 (YT #40-55), until joining with Zanzibar in 1964 (YT#56-59) and then becoming Tanzania in 1965, with a new YT#1. So it's interesting to see that there was a period with K-U-T stamps being issued in parallel with individual national issues! I had never noticed that before.

For those who might be interested, I've inserted a video of the APS Stamp Chat presented on May 5, 2020 by Kurt Streepy from the First Issues Collectors Club. The club was founded in 1990 and became an APS Affiliate Member (#232) in 1997. If you haven't visited the Club's website, I encourage you to do so. It contains a wealth of information, including a catalog of first issues. The presentation is titled "Collecting First Issues of the World" and it runs slightly over 44 minutes.
